LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Aubrey Plaza's husband Jeff Baena was discovered dead at his Los Angeles-area home on Friday, January 3, at approximately 10.30 am.

According to law enforcement sources, the 47-year-old filmmaker's assistant found his body, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities have stated that Jeff Baena died due to suicide, according to TMZ.

Born and raised in Miami, Baena studied at New York University’s film school before moving to Los Angeles to pursue his passion for storytelling.

Jeff Baena’s creative partnership with his wife, Aubrey Plaza, extended beyond their marriage.

He was best known for his collaborations with his Plaza, in films such as 'Life After Beth', 'The Little Hours', and 'Spin Me Round'.

His career highlights include co-writing the critically acclaimed 2004 film 'I Heart Huckabees', starring Jason Schwartzman, Naomi Watts, and Jude Law.

In 2021, Baena also created the anthology series 'Cinema Toast on Showtime', which marked Plaza’s directorial debut.

In a 2022 interview, Baena expressed his gratitude for collaborating with Plaza, saying, “The opportunity to do something creative [together] where we’re both fulfilled — how rare is that?”

Jeff Baena and Aubrey Plaza began their relationship in 2011 and maintained a low profile throughout the years.

The couple’s unconventional wedding story, involving an impromptu ceremony, was later shared during Plaza’s appearance on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show'.

“We got a little bored one night. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. That’s real, look it up,” Plaza said in December 2021.

“I created a very quick love altar in our yard. Facts of our love, little stones, smoke, fire. Things of that nature," she recalled.

"Then the man from Alhambra showed up. I can’t remember a lot of it, it was fuzzy. But, I’m pretty sure it was legal,” Plaza shared.

Speaking about how her role as Harper on HBO’s 'The White Lotus Season 2' was relatable, Plaza said, “This character is me. It’s probably the first project that I’ve ever done that I’m like, whoa, this is really close to home."

"I don’t have kids. I’ve been with my husband for 12 years. I relate to being in a relationship that has peaks and valleys, and going through a rough patch and comparing yourself to another couple that seems perfect,” she told GQ in 2022.
