Aubrey Plaza shared heartbreaking thoughts on life and marriage with Jeff Baena before his sudden death
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Actress Aubrey Plaza shared her candid take on life and marriage months before the untimely death of her husband, filmmaker Jeff Baena, The Mirror US reported on Saturday, January 4.
Baena was found dead inside the couple's Los Feliz home on Friday, January 3, at the age of 47. He was pronounced dead at the scene, after being discovered by his assistant at approximately 10.30 in the morning.
Aubrey Plaza's recent revelation
During her appearance on Howard Stern's podcast three months ago, Aubrey Plaza shared her experience with maintaining friendships and a relationship in Hollywood. When the host suggested that being married to a filmmaker was "better for (her)" than being together with an actor, Plaza readily agreed.
Stern went on to speculate that the 40-year-old's job was "not bringing you the happiness that you thought it would bring," to which Plaza replied with a laugh, "It's lonely at the top."
"I don't know how much of this is a put-on, but it sounds like you're not that happy," observed Stern, prompting Plaza to say, "I really don't know. I can't tell you what's real or not. That's my problem."
Plaza claimed she did not doubt her friends, saying, "I'm a pretty selective friend. Like, a lot of my friends are friends that I've had since I was, you know, in high school or whatever. I mean, I have new friends too but I'm not, like, going out there trying to make friends."
She only admitted to doubting her feelings, as she was skilled at "manipulating" them on account of being an actor, and considered the trait dangerous.
Aubrey Plaza gushed about her husband during interview with Drew Barrymore
Back in 2021, Aubrey Plaza shared what it was like living and working with Jeff Baena during her appearance on 'The Drew Barrymore Show.' The two had got married shortly ahead during the Covid-19 pandemic.
"It's so great, it's so complicated," Plaza told Barrymore. "It's, like, extreme highs and extreme, you know, complications. It's a really hard thing to navigate, but we've been together for 11 years. We just muscle our way through it."
She also fondly spoke about their matching tie-dye pajamas which Baena made for their backyard wedding.
In another interview with People, Plaza insisted that the pandemic strengthened their relationship, saying, "We were quarantined for months and months like everybody else. And we did enjoy it. I think it was, obviously other than all of the catastrophic things happening in the world, just on a personal level, relationship level, was kind of nice to just be forced to be in one place for that long."
