CRYPTO ARENA, LOS ANGELES: Bad Bunny on Sunday, February 1, used his victory for Best Musica Urbana Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards to deliver a message against ICE.
The Puerto Rican rapper used his award acceptance speech time to criticize Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).
Bad Bunny calls out ICE In Grammy speech
While accepting the award for the album ‘DeBI TiRAR MaS FOToS’, he said, “Before I say thanks to God, I’m going to say ICE out”.
Bad Bunny then followed up with a message about choosing love over hate in treating immigrants.
He told the crowd, “We’re not savage, we’re not animals, we’re not aliens. We are humans and we are Americans.”
Bad Bunny urges fans to choose love over hate
Bad Bunny also spoke about how difficult it is to stay positive when there is so much negativity in the world.
He admitted that “we get contaminados (contaminated)” by the anger around us.
He reminded everyone that “the hate gets more powerful with more hate” and urged his fans and industry colleagues to react differently.
He told the audience, “The only thing that is more powerful than hate is love. So please, we need to be different. If we fight, we have to do it with love. We don’t hate them. We love our people. We love our family, and that’s the way to do it. With love.”
Bad Bunny at the center of controversy as Trump slams NFL selection
Bad Bunny’s outspokenness against ICE is not surprising or new.
He has repeatedly criticized ICE operations, including sharing social‑media footage he claimed showed agents harassing people in Puerto Rico
In interviews with outlets like i‑D and Variety, he said one of the key reasons he excluded the United States from the tour was concern that ICE could show up outside his venues and target fans, particularly undocumented immigrants and Latinos.
The musician has taken stances against President Donald Trump and his immigration agenda on various occasions.
Notably, in the music‑video for 'NUEVAYoL', he staged a mock apology from a Trump‑like voice to immigrants.
Bad Bunny's upcoming Super Bowl Halftime Show has brought him to the center of controversy, drawing criticism from Trump himself.
The president has been vocal in his disapproval of the selection, despite claiming a lack of familiarity with the singer's work.
In October, Trump criticized the move as “absolutely ridiculous,” further remarking, “I don’t know who he is… I don’t know why they’re doing it. It’s crazy. And then they blame it on some promoter they hired to pick up entertainment — I think it’s absolutely ridiculous.”
