NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Donald Trump will soon be the president of the US, and his recent win and his youngest son Barron's enrollment at New York University (NYU) have reportedly contributed to an increase in college Republican Club membership.

The New York Post, citing sources, reported that students at the campus can be seen donning and showing off their MAGA hats. They also noted that inquiries about Barron, a freshman at the Stern School of Business, have soared.

Kaya Walker, president of NYU’s College Republican Club, said, “Interest was piqued initially by the fact that Barron Trump had matriculated as a student at our business school, but the election motivated a lot of people to act.”

Barron Trump has not yet joined NYU’s Republican Club

“It’s more curiosity than anything. People would come up to us and ask us, ‘Oh, is Baron in the club?’” she disclosed.

Walker revealed that the 18-year-old’s presence has created chaos for him and “he’s kind of watched like a zoo animal.”

“I feel bad for him more than anything. He’s kind of hard to miss. He’s very tall. People post pictures of him in class on their Instagram Story, and I think that’s really strange,” she noted.

But the president of NYU’s College Republican Club also mentioned that the president-elect’s youngest son is “not a member, but we’d love to have him.”

Walker then went on to explain how Trump’s win in the 2024 election has impacted College Republican Club “on a liberal academic campus like NYU”.

She added, “This election made a lot of people more optimistic about the future of conservatism in general.”

Universities see a surge in Republican Club membership

However, it’s not just NYU, even the Pennsylvania State University has also noticed a change.

The vice president of Penn State College Republicans Tristin Kilgore shared, “The amount of people who are willing to go out there and support President Trump and to be vocal about being a conservative in general is so much higher.”

Kilgore claimed that after the election, the club’s enrollment has doubled with 200 active members.

The 20-year-old philosophy student also stated how their pandemic experience shaped their thoughts toward Trump.

He told The Post, “We were in high school, and it was a really tough time. We’re not supporting the people who were in favor of keeping us away from our friends and away from our schools and setting us back in life.”

Like Kilgore, Alexander Richmond, president of the University of Michigan’s chapter, also shared that “on college campuses, people are rejecting the status quo of what we would normally think is the [left-wing] culture and bias on campus.”

Besides, Matthew Trott, president of the University of North Carolina’s Republicans Club, claimed that its membership has gone from 120 to 250 in the weeks following the election.

Babson College’s club president Neko Kady added, “I don’t think there are many anti-Trump, Lincoln Project-type Republicans on campus. I would say the vast majority of our club is jumping with joy.”

“There is definitely an increase in pro-Republican sentiment, like we even had kids walking around with MAGA hats in the library,” Kady asserted.

Meanwhile, people on the internet have generally lauded students for their Republican Club enrollments and a few reacted to The Post article.

One individual said, “Barron's dad is president, billionaire, and Barron likely knows Elon Musk, our current day Ben Franklin/Davinci/Edison, on a first name basis and can easily set you up with a job out of school at one of his ground breaking companies... You would be stupid to not try to be friends or in Barron's circle if you are at his school. Stupid. BTW Ramaswamy met Vance at Yale, and other rich connected friends too. In order of importance, Go to college for: connections, a degree, fun.”

Another commented, “There is hope for our country … good job young smart people.”

“Do sororities at the University of Texas wear orange Handmaiden Tale Robes?” someone else asked.

“To dream the impossible dream - oh how the tables have turned. Thank you America for seeing the light and leaving Brandon & CamelAhhhh behind,” an individual posted.

One user stated, “Wait til you learn that Barron, much like his mother, has completely disavowed Trump and the gop. Want nooooo part of anything he does.”

“These kids are fed up with liberalism. There needs to be values and traditions upheld. Without them, you'll have a very broken society as we've seen in all blue cities,” a comment read.
