BBC host Gabby Logan uses expletive phrase during broadcast to describe Team USA’s 4x100m relay blunder
PARIS, FRANCE: BBC Sport presenter Gabby Logan has found herself in the spotlight after using an expletive phrase twice during a live broadcast, sparking a wave of reactions online, as reported by Daily Mail.
The incident occurred while Logan was discussing the United States' shocking performance in the men’s 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics, a race that saw the American team, once the favorites to win gold, fumble disastrously and ultimately face disqualification.
Gabby Logan uses surprising language while commenting on Team USA's botched relay performance
The US men’s 4x100m relay team entered the race as the frontrunners, expected to dominate the event and bring home the gold. However, a bungled baton handover dramatically altered their fate, causing the team to plummet in the rankings before they were disqualified entirely.
The relay, held at the iconic Stade de France, quickly turned from hopeful anticipation to crushing disappointment for the American athletes and their supporters.
Following the race, Logan, 51, joined BBC Athletics analysts Jessica Ennis-Hill and Michael Johnson to dissect the unexpected outcome.
As the broadcast replayed the botched baton exchange, Logan didn’t mince words, referring to the mishap as a "c**k-up."
The term, considered crude and inappropriate by the Cambridge Dictionary, especially given the pre-watershed timing of the broadcast, was repeated by Logan as she sought Johnson’s insights on the race.
Despite the strong language used before the 9 pm watershed, Logan did not issue an apology on air.
This incident wasn’t the first time Logan has used straightforward language during the Paris Olympics coverage.
Just days earlier, Logan criticized American sprinter Noah Lyles, labeling him "selfish" after he competed in the 200m final despite testing positive for Covid-19.
Lyles, who had already secured a gold medal in the 100m event, was aiming for a second victory but ended up with a bronze medal, finishing behind Kenny Bednarek and Letsile Tebogo.
"A decision to race is one thing when you have something like that, but also the introductions [stadium entrances]… really interesting, that that’s a waste of energy," Logan stated during the broadcast.
She continued, "There’s also, I imagine, some people thinking, ‘Well hang on, you’re going in the call room, you’re with people in a small space, there’s a potential to give other people Covid.’ It seems to be quite a selfish decision."

Others expressed similar sentiments. One said, "People just need to get over themselves don't they? Nothing wrong with that description as it was true."
Another wrote, "A good old British terminology. Absolutely nothing wrong with it."
A user stated, "Absolutely nothing wrong with that description, it described the hand over of the baton very well."
Another added, "It was an accurate description. It could be classed as a slightly rude expression if you’ve lived a very sheltered life and are a sensitive soul."
A comment read, "Gabby is a class apart as a presenter. Always has been. She is natural, knows her stuff and doesn’t force the issue or try to stand out. Others should watch and learn."
A final user remarked, "Nothing wrong with what she said, her comment was bang on. Some people have nothing better to do than moan about minor things."
