'Bee very careful': Internet buzzes with puns as Jason Statham delves into 'The Beekeeper' role in reality
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jason Statham has seemingly gone out of his comfort zone, a little too much, as he reportedly got training to act like a real beekeeper.
The 56-year-old is playing the role of a man named Adam Clay in the film, ‘The Beekeeper’ directed by David Ayer, Entertainment Weekly reported.
In the new movie, Statham’s Clay is a “Beekeeper” and as per Ayer, “The idea of The Beekeeper is that there’s this secret society that monitors what’s going on in our societies and then can step in and intervene when the system can’t take care of itself.”

‘The bees are real’
However, the job of the “Beekeeper” is also actually of keeping bees in the movie, releasing on January 12.
The 55-year-old filmmaker disclosed, “In the opening, Jason’s pulling out the comb, and smoking the hive, and doing all the processes. That’s real. The bees are real. He learned how to do all of that.”
He shared, “It’s interesting, because we see him as this rough punch-up guy, and yet he got the zen of it — he really embraced the zen of beekeeping.”
‘Bees will attack black cloth because they think that it’s a bear’
Ayer further revealed that “Jason did not get stung” but he “got stung a bunch of times because I was operating camera, getting all these tight shots of bees, the hero bee-shots, and I was wearing black socks.”
“I learned that bees will attack black cloth because they think that it’s a bear. [Laughs] And so that’s why the beekeepers wear these white suits,” the director added.
‘Bee-hind even’
Meanwhile, several people have shared their views over Statham’s dedication with one Reddit user saying, “Method acting I can get behind.”
