Halle Bailey shed light on living in the public eye

Bailey has received a lot of heat dating back to the racist backlash to her 2019 casting as Princess Ariel in Disney's live-action remake of 'The Little Mermaid' released earlier this year. She has spoken publicly time and again about her experiences living in the public eye.

At the Glamour Women of the Year Awards in October, Bailey took the opportunity to share similar words of wisdom with her fans, as per footage from her speech shared on social media.

“It’s been an adjustment to live my life under the scrutiny of that spotlight, but in the age of social media in some way, we all live under that same scrutiny — from our bodies, what our bodies look like from what we wear to who we love to the things we care about, it’s all open to scrutiny," Bailey said during the speech.

“So here’s my honest advice: Turn it off when you need to find inner peace, OK. But also, live your life for you,” she added. “Don’t waste time living it for social media. Everyone has an opinion, but the only opinion that matters is your own, and you already know deep down what’s right for you," she added.

Halle Bailey says she does not care about the naysayers

Bailey's approach to public scrutiny has remained consistent. "I don't really think about the naysayers," she told the outlet earlier this year while discussing 'The Little Mermaid.' "I just think about the people that are positive and lift me up," she added.

Variety on Tuesday, December 5, announced that it will publish Bailey's conversation with Zegler in full as part of its annual 'Actors on Actors' series. Other duos appearing in the outlet's series include Cillian Murphy and Margot Robbie, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt, Emma Stone and Bradley Cooper and Jacob Elordi and Colman Domingo.

Bailey next co-stars with Domingo and a significant ensemble cast in the upcoming movie musical 'The Color Purple' set to release in theaters on December 25.
