The 'Good Will Hunting' co-stars, who have been best friends since their early days in Hollywood, are reportedly growing apart.
Ben Affleck's divorce makes Matt Damon 'want some space'
At 51, Ben Affleck could really use a steadfast friend as he navigates marital troubles with Jennifer Lopez. Reports from May indicated that Affleck and JLo, 55, are "headed for a divorce," with Affleck moving out of their marital home.
"Ben hasn't been a whole lot of fun to be around lately," an insider confided to Life & Style, adding, "He says he's fine and over his breakup with JLo, but he always manages to drag the conversation back to his problems with the divorce, and Matt ends up playing therapist."
The cracks in their friendship are increasingly evident, with Damon frequently seen vacationing and socializing with his friends and wife, while Affleck is rarely in the picture.
Last month, Cooper, 49, and Damon, 53, were seen enjoying time together with Jeremy Strong and their families in Denmark.
Moreover, earlier this month, Damon and his wife, Luciana Barroso, were seen vacationing on the island of Mykonos in Greece.
"This is a big kick in the teeth for Ben because he tried to arrange a vacation with Matt and got the brush off," the insider revealed.
"Matt told him he was too busy, and now he's suddenly in Europe hanging out with Bradley Cooper, and Ben's been totally left out. Ben would have dropped everything to join them, he could have brought the kids, and they all could have had fun together," the insider added.
However the source revealed, "Matt clearly wanted some space."
Ben Affleck's ringless appearances fuel divorce rumors
Although Ben Affleck and JLo haven't publicly commented on the rumors about their relationship troubles, his recent appearances hint that things might not be going smoothly.
Several outlets have noticed the star looking particularly down and spotted him without his wedding ring.
Notably absent from JLo's birthday celebration in the Hamptons, Affleck was instead busy closing on a new home in Los Angeles on her special day.
An insider shared, "Matt loves him and wants to help but he also just wants to enjoy himself on a summer holiday and so does Luciana, and they don't see why they should feel guilty about it. But for Ben it's breaking the bromance code big time, and he's pretty hurt and upset."
Damon and his wife, who married in December 2005, are reportedly very happy.
An insider told Life & Style last month, "Ben's troubles with JLo and other women have served as a handy guide for Matt when it comes to what not to do in a relationship."
The source added, "He sees how lonely Ben is, the pain he goes through when he has these breakups, the cost of it, to his mental stability as well as his bank balance. All things considered, Matt feels beyond grateful to have such a wonderful wife and stable marriage."
Reports suggest that Affleck and Lopez are preparing to file for divorce, with multiple sources revealing to the Daily Mail on July 31 that the couple's paperwork has been "finalized but not yet submitted."
