Ben Affleck wanted to buy $68M home, Jennifer Lopez 'compromised' as it was his idea, reveals source
BEVERLY HILLS, CALIFORNIA: Jennifer Lopez was reportedly never truly in love with the sprawling Beverly Hills mansion she shared with Ben Affleck amid divorce rumors.
Sources close to the couple revealed that the $68 million Beverly Hills mansion was a "major compromise" for Lopez, who never fully embraced the ultra-modern property.
"The $68 million mansion was Ben’s idea and a major compromise for her," a source said about the home the couple purchased in May 2023 for a reported $60.8 million.
The property was listed for sale just over a year later, in July 2024, at a price tag of $66.8 million. "She agreed to it because of its spacious layout, accommodating both their families, a gym and a pickleball court, office space, plus it has two private entrances," the source added.
Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck's mansion put on sale
The massive 38,000 sq ft mansion, boasting 12 bedrooms, 24 bathrooms, and luxurious amenities like a gym, pickleball court, and two private entrances, was meant to accommodate their blended family.
Affleck, 52, has three children—Violet, 18, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12—with his ex-wife Jennifer Garner, while Lopez, 55, is the mother of 16-year-old twins Max and Emme, whom she shares with her ex-husband Marc Anthony. Despite the spacious layout, Lopez never felt at home. "She loves the romantic, Spanish, European vibe," the source shared, contrasting with the ultra-modern design of the mansion.
Interestingly, another source mentioned that the location of the mansion wasn’t ideal for Affleck either. “His life’s in Brentwood. His kids live there. It was such a pain and time-consuming for Ben to navigate traffic from their house. He never liked it,” reported People.
Jennifer Lopez is searching for new property in Los Angeles
Jennifer Lopez, known for her hit 'On the Floor', has been searching for a new home in Los Angeles since April, around the same time she filed for divorce from Affleck, signaling the end of their two-year marriage.
"Jen is being shown houses," the source added, but nothing has clicked yet. The couple had initially shopped the mansion off-market before deciding to publicly list it. Affleck has since moved into a new $20.5 million home in Brentwood, described as both family-friendly and easily convertible into a bachelor pad.
The five-bedroom residence is "family-friendly, but it could easily be transformed into a bachelor pad," according to a source. The area, known for its entertainment industry A-listers, "boasts a sophisticated crowd—it's not trendy,” the source noted.

Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from the 'Argo' director on the second anniversary of their traditional wedding ceremony in Georgia, which took place on August 20, 2022. Following the filing, a source said the actress "was done waiting."
"She tried really hard to make things work and is heartbroken. The kids are a top priority, as they always have been," they added.
Lopez is set to appear at the Toronto International Film Festival to promote her new movie 'Unstoppable', which Affleck co-produced on Friday, September 6. However, don’t expect to see them together on the red carpet, as Affleck is likely to skip the event.
