WASHINGTON, DC: Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro has claimed that the Democrats had "manufactured enthusiasm" surrounding the party's presumptive nominee Kamala Harris in a manner quite unlike anything he had seen before, during an interview with host Jesse Watters on Fox News.

In a clip that went viral over the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Shapiro is seen telling Watters about the Vice President's qualifications and using the term "intersectional magic", before adding, "And the fact that the Democrats have manufactured enthusiasm... I've never seen so much manufactured enthusiasm for anyone outside of maybe Taylor Swift."

"Me neither," replied Watters, laughing at the comparison drawn by Shapiro. "And it's so obvious that you cringe when you see it."

Support for Kamala Harris continues to grow

Since President Joe Biden announced suspending his political campaign on Sunday, July 21, and endorsed Kamala Harris in his stead, the support for the Vice President has grown at a remarkable pace.

"My very first decision as the party nominee in 2020 was to pick Kamala Harris as my Vice President. And it’s been the best decision I’ve made. Today I want to offer my full support and endorsement for Kamala to be the nominee of our party this year. Democrats — it’s time to come together and beat Trump. Let’s do this," Biden posted over X on Sunday.

Within 24 hours of his endorsement, Harris' campaign announced that they had raised $81 million, and touted the collection as the "largest 24-hour raise in presidential history".

In an email release on Monday afternoon, they stated that more than 888,000 grassroots donors had contributed to the campaign. It was the first contribution in the 2024 cycle for 60% of the donors, and out of them, 43,000 had signed up to make recurring donations.

By the end of the day, Harris had further secured the backing of more than the 1,976 delegates required to lock up the party's nomination, to be announced at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.

Internet hits back at Ben Shapiro's 'manufactured enthusiasm' claim

Netizens trolled Ben Shapiro as well as the GOP, claiming that they were afraid of the massive support being received by Kamala Harris.

A user claimed that this was how they planned to cope with "Kamalamania", and the following reactions to Shapiro's take on X demonstrate the prevalent mood.

"They are scared, shitless scared," wrote a user.

"The enthusiasm is real, Ben. Read the room," stated another.

"Lol. Whatever they need to tell themselves to get through Kamalamania," commented a third.

"Ben about to get all the Swifties voting," quipped a fourth.

"That enthusiasm isn't manufactured for either of them. It's been earned," noted another.

"What a small, fragile little man," jibed a sixth.

"Remove the word 'manufactured' to know what he’s really thinking and why MAGA is terrified," expressed a user.

"Someone has to explain female excitement to Ben Shapiro . . . again," mocked yet another.
