Bernie Sanders says he needs concrete promises from Kamala Harris on working class before endorsing her
WASHINGTON, DC: Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vt) gave his reasons for delaying his endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president during an interview with MSNBC's Ali Velshi on Friday, July 26. He said that he needs to see more concrete promises from her on issues that are significant to the working class.
According to The Hill, Sanders wanted to influence Harris' campaign and part of the reason he waited to endorse was to put some pressure on the vice president to take up some of his ideas.

During the interview, Bernie Sanders said that he is participating in events in Maine to further his efforts to elect Harris. He declared his intention to use all of his resources to unseat the former president Donald Trump and insert Harris as the next president.
However, he stated that before offering an official endorsement, he wanted to see Harris make more detailed promises on matters like extending Social Security and Medicare.
What did Bernie Sanders say about Kamala Harris?
“I think it’s important for some of us to say look, we know that there’s a lot of big money in the Democratic Party,” Sanders told Valshi. “We want to make sure that the vice president is listening to the working class of this country, to the progressives as well. These are not radical ideas and I would hope very much we get specificity,” he added.

He added that medicare ought to be extended to include vision and dental care. He also suggested that all student loans be discharged and that rent in the US should be capped.
Sanders made no mention of the need for him to make specific promises on any of these matters and he made no disparaging remarks about Harris. “I have talked to the vice president and look forward to speaking to her in the near future,” he told Valshi when asked if he was having a discussion with Harris. “Yeah, that conversation is going on,” he added. He said that he hopes he does get assurances on these issues from Harris.
Bernie Sanders ran for Democratic nomination for president in 2016 and 2020
In both 2016 and 2020, Bernie Sanders was the Democratic nominee for president; he came in second in both contests. His efforts have forced the Democratic Party to the left, and in his conversation with Valshi, he commended President Biden's efforts on behalf of the working class.
Although Harris took a lot of liberal stances during her 2020 presidential campaign, pressure is anticipated to push her in the direction of the center in the lead-up to a close contest with Trump.
