Jake Gyllenhaal asserts playing Batman will be an 'honor'

According to Comic book resources, Gyllenhaal might want to be Gotham's knight in the new and revamped DC universe. A new version of Batman will be cast for DC's 'The Brave and the Bold' and the 'Southpaw' actor has shown interest in wearing the cape.

In a recent interview with Screen Rant, Gyllenhaal was asked, "Jake, watching you in these action scenes was incredible. Like I said, it was deliciously visceral. But a while back, I know that you auditioned for the role of Batman, and I got some Batman vibes in this film when you were beating the crap out of people. Is that a role you’d still be interested in, especially after doing a movie like this?"

Getting candid in his response, Gyllenhaal confesses, "Oh, man. That’s a classic. It’s an honor."

Talking further about how big of a responsibility it would be to fill some big shows, as in the past numerous legendary actors have helmed the role of Batman, Gyllenhaal adds, "I think about like the history of actors that have played that role throughout time, and I’m intimidated by that. It would be an honor always. Those types of things and those roles are classics."

According to Comic Book Resources, there was once a time when Gyllenhaal was in the spotlight as a potential Batman for Christopher Nolan's 'Batman Begins'. However, Christian Bale ultimately swooped in to claim the iconic role.

Looking ahead, director Andy Muschietti is set to take the reins for the upcoming film 'The Brave and the Bold'. DC Studios bigwig James Gunn teased fans by calling it Batman's grand entrance into the new DC Universe. But, it won't be a typical origin story.

From Robert Pattinson's brooding turn and younger version in Matt Reeves' 'The Batman' to Ben Affleck's portrayal in the DC Extended Universe, and, Christian Bale's unforgettable run in 'The Dark Knight' trilogy, there are iconic names attached to this character.
