Jennie Garth says she’s ‘very fearful’ of her mortality after Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty’s deaths
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Losing one’s colleagues prematurely takes a toll on a person’s psyche, and ‘Beverly Hills, 90210’ actress Jennie Garth is not an exception.
Garth, 52, who played the role of Kelly Taylor in almost 300 episodes of the popular Fox series, recently admitted to having been left fearful of her own mortality in the wake of the deaths of her co-stars Luke Perry and Shannen Doherty.
Appearing on her podcast ‘90210MG’ with Tori Spelling, 51, Garth discussed the sadness she feels after the death of her beloved co-stars.
The heartfelt conversation came a few days after Doherty died on July 13 at age 53 following years-long battle with breast cancer. Perry died in March 2019 after suffering a massive heart attack, aged 52.
'Beverly Hills, 90210' star Jennie Garth ponders on her mortality after co-star Shannen Doherty’s death
On Monday, July 22, Jennie Garth opened up about her fearful thoughts during the podcast episode. She shared that losing her longtime colleagues made her “feel very fearful” about her own mortality, per Daily Mail.
“Especially just with Luke dying and now Shannen,” the Illinois native said, “I just feel like, I don't know, it could be any of us could go at any moment. That kind of feeling … yeah, that's scary.”
Tori Spelling, on the other hand, admitted that she has “always been a fearful person". However, the actress who played Donna Martin on the hit show, shared that Perry and Doherty’s deaths left her sad.
Spelling, who has battled her fair share of health scares in recent times, said, “I didn't feel fear at all when she passed - I just felt sad.”
“I felt sad for the second chapter she had, and I was so excited for that chapter for her and wanted her so badly to have that,” continued the actress.
Jennie Garth says she was inspired by Shannen Doherty
In the same episode, Jennie Garth went on to eulogize Shannen Doherty, saying that she was a role model to her and inspired her by showing “so much strength” in her life.
She continued, “I learned a lot, you know, about how to stand up for myself, how to fight for things that I believed in.”
Garth added, “I also saw that she was saying what she needed to say, and I thought, 'I want to be like that. I want to be a person that uses my voice and says what I need to say'. So she did inspire me.”
Garth and Spelling both said they would like to honor Doherty and Perry at fan events for the popular retro series. Garth said, “I feel like I need to try to be strong through that ... because that will make them feel better.”
“Because I know that it made us feel better to be together after Luke passed away. There was some comfort in that,” explained the TV veteran.
She shared that “there was just a thread of love and appreciation for one another and support that we felt because we had each other - and I don't think that that will ever go away".
“I still feel it with Luke. I know that as time passes, it'll feel different with Shannen,” added the actress.
Spelling became emotional as she revisited the memories she shared with her cast members, saying, “I can't imagine this lifetime not getting to know all of you and not going through that experience that, as we say, Jen, no one can understand.”
“And I'm OK with that because I wouldn't have wanted to share it with anyone else besides all of you,” added the ‘Scary Movie’ star.
