WASHINGTON, DC: Reports suggest that the Biden administration may impose sanctions on an Israel Defense Forces (IDF) unit for alleged human rights breaches in the West Bank before the terrorist attack on Israel on October 7, which was organized by Hamas, according to Fox News.

According to Axios, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken may declare the sanctions on IDF battalion 'Netzah Yehuda' in a few days. This will be the first time that sanctions will be imposed by the United States on military forces that are managed by Israel.

According to individuals who spoke with the publication, the battalion, and its personnel would no longer get any kind of training or support from the US military if sanctions were put in place.

As per reliable information, the Leahy Law forbids the United States from giving any kind of foreign aid or defense department training to nations accused of violating human rights.

Notably, Blinken was questioned by reporters on Friday, April 19, over his department's suggestions to stop providing military support to certain Israeli units as well as Israel's abuses of human rights in the West Bank.

Blinken began by stating that the Leahy Law was universally applicable and significant. He said, "When we’re doing these investigations, these inquiries, it’s something that takes time, that has to be done very carefully both in collecting the facts and analyzing them – and that’s exactly what we’ve done."

He added, "And I think it’s fair to say that you’ll see results very soon. I’ve made determinations; you can expect to see them in the days ahead."

The National Security Minister of Israel's ally and two organizations that gathered money for Israeli individuals accused of settlement violence were targeted by US sanctions on Friday.

Along with prior sanctions this year, the latest ones were imposed on two unlawful outposts and five settlers. The tighter penalties also reflect the United States' mounting annoyance with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Notably, Sanctions on Friday are expected to prevent Americans from doing business with the targeted parties and freeze any assets they may have in the United States.

Meanwhile, the Biden administration's actions against the Israeli settlers have allegedly infuriated right-wing elements of Netanyahu's ruling coalition, which is pressing for the annexation of the West Bank and the expansion of Jewish settlements.
