NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: President Joe Biden recently added to his myriad of gaffes as he mistakenly welcomed world leaders to Washington instead of New York City's midtown Manhattan.

Speaking at the InterContinental New York Barclay hotel in NYC on Wednesday, September 25, the 81-year-old sparked mockery online for his latest slip-up after exiting the 2024 race due to Democratic push over concern about his cognitive stability.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you. Welcome to Washington," Biden told the world leaders who gathered in NYC, the New York Post reported.

Despite wrongly welcoming the world leaders to Washington instead of the Big Apple, President Joe Biden continued with his speech, implying he did not make a mistake.

"Fellow leaders, friends, for 944 days [Russian President Vladimir] Putin has waged his vicious onslaught against Ukraine," the octogenarian said, reiterating his support for Ukraine along with the Western leaders gathered at the event held on the sidelines of the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

On September 24, Biden addressed his final UNGA, where he revealed the reason for withdrawing from the 2024 presidential race and passing the baton to Vice President Kamala Harris.

"I decided, after 50 years of public service, it’s time for a new generation of leadership to take my nation forward," he said.

The president started his public service career as a US Senator from Delaware from 1973 to 2009 and was sworn in as the vice president in the Barack Obama administration, a position he held from 2009 to 2016.

At the September 25 event, Biden spoke before Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky, addressing him just as "Mr President" without his surname. At the NATO Summit in July, days before his exit from the re-election bid, Biden introduced his Ukrainian counterpart as "President Putin."

Biden, who holds the record as the oldest president of the United States, ended his re-election campaign on July 21 after pressure from Democratic donors and lawmakers due to his poor debate performance against his predecessor, Donald Trump, in June.

The president fumbled throughout the debate with incoherent statements, at one point declaring he "finally beat Medicare."

Biden, nearing his end to the one-term presidency, has dismissed Republican calls to resign as POTUS after he anointed Harris for the Democratic nomination.

In July, House Speaker Mike Johnson urged the incumbent to resign immediately, claiming he was not fit to be president if he was unfit to run for a second term.

Biden will step down from the Oval Office as the 46th president on January 20, 2025.
