CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: President Joe Biden raised eyebrows when he declared at the Democratic National Convention that he and Vice President Kamala Harris were committed to "strengthening illegal immigration."

While addressing the crowd on Monday night, August 19, at one point, the commander-in-chief said, "Unlike Trump, we will not demonize immigrants, saying they poison the blood of America. Poison of blood of our country? Kamala and I are committed to strengthening illegal immigration, including protecting dreamers and more."

Netizens were quick to pounce on the president's gaffe.

One said, "Well, as per usual Joe said the quiet part out loud," and another remarked, "Not a joke!" referencing one of Biden's go-to reactions.

"The fossil tells the truth," joked a person, with someone else saying, "I think we should thank him for saying it out loud. I hope people listen to him when he says they are going to strengthen 'illegal immigration.'"

"Fact check true, they are making illegal immigration great again," remarked an individual. "Got to love that accidental honesty," shared another person.

Joe Biden passes the torch to younger, energetic Democrats

President Joe Biden, who was introduced to the crowd by his wife, Dr Jill Biden, and his daughter, Ashley Biden, delivered a poignant speech where he fondly reminisced about his father's words, saying, "Family is the beginning, the middle, and the end."

His address did not begin until 11.30 pm ET, well beyond his usual bedtime and notably behind schedule. According to the Washington Free Beacon, the delay frustrated some of his most loyal supporters, who were reportedly upset that Democrats had "cut him out of prime time."

As President Biden listed his achievements, the crowd responded with polite applause. The energy in the room, however, appeared to have already waned, having been largely spent on younger and more dynamic Democrats who had spoken earlier.

His speech was marred by occasional stumbles over the words on his teleprompter. Strangely enough, the audience’s enthusiasm notably spiked only when he claimed to have (allegedly) reduced unlawful border crossings, per the Free Beacon.

Vice President Kamala Harris made a surprise appearance at the United Center, where prominent Democrats like Kennedy scion Jack Schlossberg and the hosts of 'Pod Save America' mingled with fans.

Harris began her remarks by celebrating President Biden, saying, "I want to kick us off by celebrating our incredible president, Joe Biden," and thanked him for his "historic leadership."

In stark contrast, Biden became a testament to the inevitable limitations of aging. At more than twice the age of Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY), the sitting president seemed out of step with the energy exuded by figures like AOC, whose supporters loudly chanted her name outside the event—alongside some signs denouncing "Killer Kamala" and "Genocide Joe."

Hillary Clinton, dressed in an oatmeal pantsuit, delivered a rousing speech that all but confirmed Harris as the future of the Democratic Party. The former secretary of state declared, "The future is here!" as she reveled in the applause and the chants of "Lock him up!" echoing through the venue.

She even took a moment to pat herself on the back, suggesting that her 2016 defeat (which she still believes was illegitimate) had paved the way for this historic moment.

That said, Clinton’s remarks about Biden were delivered in the past tense—as if she were giving a eulogy. "Joe Biden brought back dignity, decency, and competence to the White House, and he demonstrated what it means to be a patriot," said the former first lady.

Meanwhile, in the twilight of his own presidency, Biden acknowledged that he was "too old" to continue as president. "It's been the honor of my lifetime to serve as your president. I love the job, but I love my country more," declared the octogenarian.

Reflecting on his decision to choose Harris as his running mate, Biden called it "the best decision I made in my whole career."
