WASHINGTON, DC: Unearthed emails from a Freedom of Information Act request have revealed that the Biden administration canceled a planned vessel visit in 2023 because it required then-President Joe Biden to climb too many steps.

The records, obtained by advocacy group Protect the Public’s Trust and shared with Fox News, show that the change was made ahead of Biden’s July 2023 tour of a Philadelphia shipyard where he promoted offshore wind and clean energy jobs.

Emails cite step count as reason for scrapping Biden visit

According to the documents, Biden was scheduled to board a National Security Multi-Mission Vessel (NSMV) during the visit.

However, emails between the US Maritime Administration (MARAD) and the Department of Transportation (DOT) confirmed the stop was dropped because of “how many steps were involved to get on the ship.”

A MARAD official wrote to the Office of Secure Transportation on July 17, 2023, “No visit to the NSMV vessel is planned after the WH realized how many steps were involved to get on the ship. {True – lots of steps on grating}.”

Decision made a month after Biden fell on stage at Air Force Academy graduation ceremony

The correspondence also revealed miscommunication between the White House and MARAD, a DOT agency.

In a July 18, 2023, email, a DOT official noted, “MARAD hasn’t had anyone reach out to them from WH."

"All info they have received has been from Philly shipyard. S2 team reached out to WH Advance, and that is how we confirmed the visit was scheduled. Nothing else heard and no further call made or received on this event that I am aware of,” as reported by Fox News.

The decision came just over a month after Biden stumbled and fell on stage at the Air Force Academy graduation ceremony in Colorado Springs on June 1, 2023. The White House said at the time that the president had tripped over a sandbag and was not injured.

Internet users mock Joe Biden over vessel visit decision

Following the report, online critics weighed in with ridicule. “Honestly, this just shows how out of touch the previous admin was,” wrote one person on X.

Another posted, “What a disgrace.”

“Turns out it wasn’t foreign policy or logistics… just too many steps. History books may need a new section: Presidency vs. Staircases,” another user quipped.

"For those White House aides who previously claimed that Biden was "running circles around staffers less than half his age," it appears that they had to be very, very small circles . . . and no steps," one more posted.

One commenter joked, “Not just ‘running circles around staffers,’ but teaching trigonometry in between exercise routines.”

Another wrote, “Sleepy Joe is like a baseball pitcher. Once he’s reached his step limit, it’s ‘hit the showers, CornPop!’”

“So in other words, Biden spent his timing going in circles and they sent a staffer to stand in the middle of his circles so they could claim this ‘truthfully’... 🤣,” added another critic online.
