New York, NY: Former President Bill Clinton praised President Donald Trump for his administration’s role in brokering the Israel‑Hamas ceasefire on Monday, October 13, on his X account.

He wrote in his statement that the US and regional partners "deserve great credit for keeping everyone engaged until the agreement was reached."

Clinton expressed relief that the hostages were being released and aid was flowing into Gaza.

“The horrors of the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel and the conflict they reignited have resulted in unbearable human loss,” Clinton wrote.

“It has been hard to watch and nearly impossible to rationalize. I’m grateful that a ceasefire has taken hold, that the last 20 living hostages have been freed, and that desperately needed aid has begun to flow into Gaza," he further wrote.

While commending the ceasefire, Clinton also stressed the importance of turning this “fragile moment into lasting peace” that ensures "dignity and security" for both Israelis and Palestinians.

"I believe that they can get there, but only if they do it together,” the former president concluded.

Clinton’s praise for Trump is a rare public acknowledgement

Clinton’s praise for Trump comes despite years of personal and political tension between the two.

The feud was allegedly mainly rooted in Trump’s attacks on his wife, Hillary Clinton, during the 2016 campaign.

Earlier this year, Bill Clinton expressed skepticism over Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s intentions in the region.

He had urged the US to defuse tensions and prevent further civilian casualties.

During a guest appearance on 'The Daily Show' in June, the former president had said, "First of all — they’re not talking about negotiating peace in the Middle East because the Israelis have no intention of … under Prime Minister Netanyahu, of giving the Palestinians a state."

He continued and added, "And now, they’re too divided and crushed to organize themselves to achieve it."

However, he also said, "But I think we should be trying to defuse it, and I hope President Trump will do that."

Hillary Clinton also acknowledged Trump's efforts

In another rare public compliment, Hillary Clinton also praised Trump and his administration during an interview with CBS News.

She commended the "leaders in the region for making the commitment to the 20-point plan and seeing a path forward for what’s often called the day after."

"Most importantly, the conflict hopefully will end with the ceasefire. The hostages will be returned, and then the very hard work of rebuilding Gaza, of finding the kind of security that Israel and the Palestinians after Hamas deserve to have," the former secretary of state said.

Hillary noted that while she and Trump have long disagreed on policy and governance, she welcomed any action that contributed to peace and stability in the region.
