Bill Maher mocks Trump’s ‘lovefest’ with Xi Jinping during China summit: 'He holds the cards now'

WASHINGTON, DC: The White House is making it clear that it has little patience for criticism of President Donald Trump in the aftermath of his headline-grabbing visit to China.

Trump’s Communications Director Steven Cheung recently slammed The Telegraph over an article titled “How Trump lost control of the ‘best summit ever.’”

“Probably one of the biggest fake news stories ever written during the Trump Era. The Telegraph has completely lost the plot,” Cheung remarked.

However, this wasn’t enough to stop Bill Maher from mocking Trump over his love fest with Chinese leader, Xi Jinping, during his two-day visit.

Bill Maher claims Xi Jinping played like he knows he holds the cards

The Trump administration confirmed that during the visit, the two leaders “discussed ways to enhance economic cooperation between our two countries, including expanding market access for American businesses into China and increasing Chinese investment into our industries.”

Maher, however, viewed the meeting as more of a “love fest” between the two powerful leaders, with Trump repeatedly lavishing Xi with a series of unusual compliments throughout the visit.

“Trump: he hates China, but he loves Xi,” said Maher. “To say this was a lovefest between these two guys was an understatement. As he left, [Trump] thanked Xi profusely for his hospitality. And Xi thanked Trump for making China way more popular around the world.”

According to Maher, Trump’s fondness for grand spectacle may explain why he appeared unusually warm toward Xi after receiving an extravagant welcome in China, despite spending the last year and a half locked in a bitter trade war with Beijing.

“You know what? China knows what Trump likes. What does he like? He likes the pomp and the parades, and he likes the red carpet, and there were thousands of children waving American flags,”

“And Xi, he’s clever, you know? He knows. He bargained like someone who knows he holds the cards now, ever since Trump backed down on their big trade war,” the comedian explained.

Maher then delivered another punchline, joking, “As a subtle dig, they even served orange chicken.”

But he didn’t stop there. “Trump says there are no games with Xi — it’s starting to get a little weird,” Maher quipped, before adding another jab: “At one point, Xi supposedly told his translator, ‘Tell Trump not to catch feelings.’”

Bill Maher slams Sean Hannity

Maher’s dig train didn’t stop at Trump; he also dragged in Fox News anchor Sean Hannity, calling him “an honorary l*****n” over his “softball” questions from a recent sit-down with the president.

The comedian called out the Fox News personality for failing to ask any hard-hitting questions about the president’s meeting with Xi Jinping.

“And I gotta say also, the right-wing media. Sean Hannity was on the trip. They did an interview. I don’t want to say Sean Hannity lobs a lot of softballs, but today he was made an honorary l*****n,” he said.

Elsewhere in the monologue, Maher poked fun at “tech bros” Elon Musk and Tim Cook for attending the state trip.

“Very sweet moment when the CEO of Apple he saw all of the kids and said, ‘Get back to work. Musk was there in a suit! You don’t see that often. It shows the respect Elon Musk has for the Chinese leadership. And, out of respect for the one child rule that was pillar of Chinese society for so long, while he was in China for two days, Elon only fathered one child,” he quipped.
