LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bill Maher used his HBO platform to call out high-profile Democrats, Kamala Harris and Bill and Hillary Clinton, for refusing to appear on his show.

The 'Real Time' host contrasted them with Republicans, whom he credited for showing up and debating him openly.

Maher, who often votes for Democrats, said he was puzzled by their reluctance to appear on a program hosted by someone who has long supported them.

Bill Maher says Kamala Harris and Clintons repeatedly turn down ‘Real Time’ invites

Bill Maher said he is often asked why big names like Kamala Harris and the Clintons don’t show up on 'Real Time', stressing that it is not due to a lack of effort.

“You think we don't ask? We ask these people every week. They say no,” said Maher. He added, “It took eight years and a petition to get Obama on.”

The late-night host said it was strange that Democrats would be “afraid” of joining him on air.

“And these are people — all people I voted for. Think about that. They're afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them,” Maher said. “The Republicans, they show up and when they do, they take their beating like a man.”

Bill Maher points to GOP figures who engage in heated debates

To underline his point, Bill Maher played a montage of conservatives who had appeared on his show, often engaging in fiery exchanges.

Among them were former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, former Attorney General Bill Barr, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, and Trump ally Steve Bannon.

He said he would welcome appearances from progressives as well. “Look, I would love to have AOC on the show and [Zohran] Mandani and Elizabeth Warren, but I can't subpoena the guests and I can't fix that,” Maher said.

Maher also joked about what he sees as Democrats’ biggest fear.

“What the Democrats are scared of more than anything else. I mean, obviously, besides gluten, is being primaried from the far left, even though most Democrats are not far-left, they're mild-mannered and moderate,” he quipped.

He added, “At least at my bath house.”

Internet says Democrats dodging Bill Maher reveals weakness

While critical of Democrats, Bill Maher did commend California Governor Gavin Newsom, whom he teased for his “perfect hair” but praised for being willing to show up.

The internet reactions soon poured in, and many Republicans mocked Democrats for refusing to face Maher.

“Democrats won’t even face Bill Maher, but we’re supposed to believe they’ll stand up to Putin?” joked one.

Another wrote, “The Right is right so we're happy to engage in discourse whereas the Left is afraid that one wrong word will upset their delusional base.”

One more added, “That's because Maher is a liberal, not a leftist. The world was much better when he was considered ‘the far left.’”

Some also questioned Maher’s politics. “Dude is a Republican now. The Left has moved the needle so far that a guy like Maher is a Righty now,” wrote one.

Another suggested, “Democrats know they already have Maher's vote and his audiences’. No upside.”
