Billy Joel 'not ready to retire' after NPH diagnosis as 'music is his life', reveals insider

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Billy Joel is not planning to retire even as he battles health challenges.
At 76, the music legend has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH) but remains determined to return to the stage.

A music industry source told People, "He is happiest while performing. Music is, has been and will always be his life. He’s not ready to retire."
Another source close to Joel added, "He is not retiring and hopes to be able to resume performing as his recovery progresses."

On May 23, Joel announced he was canceling all upcoming concerts after being diagnosed with NPH. This condition leads to excess fluid in the brain, affecting hearing, vision, and balance.
His Instagram statement said he was advised to stop performing during his recovery.

"Bill is thankful for the excellent care he is receiving and is fully committed to prioritizing his health. He is grateful for the support from fans during this time and looks forward to the day when he can once again take the stage," read the statement.
"I’m sincerely sorry to disappoint our audience, and thank you for understanding," said Joel.
Billy Joel's wife Alexis thanks fans for their support after husband's health update
On May 26, Billy Joel’s wife, Alexis, shared a statement through his Instagram, thanking fans for their support.
Alongside a family photo, she wrote, "Thank you for the outpouring of love and support. We are so grateful for the wonderful care and swift diagnosis we received."

She continued, "Bill is beloved by so many, and to us, he is a father and husband who is at the center of our world. We are hopeful for his recovery. We look forward to seeing you all in the future."
In February, Joel had fallen during a concert at Mohegan Sun in Connecticut but recovered quickly.
By March, he postponed shows through June due to a medical condition requiring physical therapy.
