LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Legendary comedian-actor Bob Newhart died at age 94, at his Los Angeles residence on Thursday, July 18. 

The news of his passing away was confirmed by his longtime publicist Jerry Digney, The ‘Hell Is for Heroes’ star suffered from bouts of short illnesses before his death.

Bob Newhart's successful 60 years long career

Bob Newhart’s career expanded over six decades, making a breakthrough performance with 'The Button-Down Mind of Bob Newhart'.

The celebrated star was most cherished for his CBS series ‘The Bob Newhart Show’, which was on air from 1972 to 1978, and ‘Newhart,’ which ran from 1982 to 1990.

Newhart earned seven Emmy nominations, starting from a 1962 nod for writing ‘The Bob Newhart Show' during the early years of his career. This included acting nominations for ‘Newhart’, and he finally won his first Emmy in 2013 for his recurring guest role on ‘The Big Bang Theory’, bagging two more nods in 2014 and 2016.

His guest actor work on ER and the TNT movie ‘The Librarian: The Curse of the Judas Chalice’ also got him the Emmys recognition.

"I have a theory that when it's all over ... and you go up — [if] I've been led to believe to heaven — and there's a God and he says, 'What did you do?' [And] I say, 'I made people laugh,' [He will say,] 'Yeah, get in that real short line over there,'" he opened up on his successful career during an interview in November 2020.

Newhart lost his wife Ginnie, in April 2022, "after a long illness," per People.

The actor is survived by their four kids, sons Robert and Timothy, and daughters Jennifer and Courtney, and 10 grandchildren.

Internet praised the comedian and shared moments from his six-decade-long career which they cherish. He won his first Emmy award in 2013, which was long-awaited, per fans.

"Bob Newhart a legend, easily one of the greatest series ending episodes of all-time," a second individual expressed.

Another fan shared, "The man made it a long way proud of him #funnyman."

"RIP the incredible Bob Newhart, a true king among men and one of the nicest people I’ve had the pleasure of getting to know since he guest starred on Big Bang Theory. This was the day he taped the Star Wars episode, truly a fun day," one wrote.
