SANTA FE, NEW MEXICO: Police probing the deaths of Gene Hackman and his wife Betsy Arakawa have released bodycam footage, showing the moment they arrived at the couple's house. The two, along with one of their dogs, were discovered dead on February 26 in their Santa Fe, New Mexico mansion.

The clip shows the officers speaking with the veteran actor’s contractors while trying to find out what really had happened.

RadarOnline citing the footage reported that one policeman asked a handyman if there was any gas leak in the house, to which he replied, “Something is not right.”

The handyman further shared, "That big vent you see on the roof by the front door, that thing's like that big around, so it's meant to vent.”

“So I just don't... and that mechanical room is pretty d*** tight. I don't see carbon monoxide getting…” he continued telling the cops.

Another officer asked the handyman if gas could have leaked via any kitchen appliances but he claimed, “It shouldn't. I don't see how both of them are down like this. Something's not right.”

The bodies of Hackman, 95, and Arakawa, 65, were reportedly discovered by groundskeeper, Hesse Kasler, who can be heard saying in the clip, “[Hackman's] just a normal person and to see that, both of them... sorry, I get attached to all these people, they treat me really well.”

Gene Hackman had ‘severe heart disease’

Autopsies carried out on ‘The French Connection’ star Gene Hackman and his classical pianist wife Betsy Arakawa revealed that his death was due to hypertensive atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, with underlying advanced Alzheimer's disease, while she lost her life to Hantavirus pulmonary syndrome.

The celebrated actor’s autopsy disclosed “severe heart disease, including multiple surgical procedures involving the heart, evidence of prior heart attacks, and severe changes of the kidneys due to chronic high blood pressure,” as reported by Fox News.

Also, Dr Heather Jarrell, Chief Medical Examiner for New Mexico at the Office of the Medical Investigator, mentioned, "Examination of the brain showed advanced Alzheimer's disease as well as blood vessel changes in the brain secondary to chronic high blood pressure."

Arakawa is believed to have died before her husband. Earlier in March, Dr Jarrell, said, “It's quite possible that he was not aware that she was deceased.”

“Mr Hackman showed evidence of advanced Alzheimer's disease. He was in a very poor state of health. He had significant heart disease, and I think, ultimately, that's what resulted in his death,” she stated.

Dr Jarrell added that there was no way "to determine time or date of death, but it is probably likely Mr Hackman died around February 18. And based on circumstances, it is reasonable to conclude Ms Hackman died first, with February 11 the last time she was known to be alive."

Though earlier reports said that Arakawa might have died on February 11, later reports revealed that she "made an appointment" to meet a doctor on February 12.

Dr Josiah Child, a physician who oversees Cloudberry Health, shared, “[Betsy] had actually made an appointment to have an initial visit with one of our doctors on the 12th.”

Dr Child also shared that she first called on February 10 and said that "her husband was ill or wanted to take care of her husband. She wanted to cancel that appointment. She called back on the 12th and [looking for] advice."

This revelation only enhances the confusion surrounding the timeline of Hackman and Arakawa’s deaths.
