Steve Carell confirms 'watching but not showing up' in 'The Office' follow-up
At the opening of his new film 'IF', the '40-year-old Virgin' star spoke about the impending TV series.
"I will be watching but I will not be showing up. It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character [Michael Scott] to show up in something like that," Carell told the outlet.
He added, "But I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit. I love the idea — I guess it’s set in a failing newspaper company, and I worked with Domhnall Gleeson, who is one of the leads; I did [2022 series] 'The Patient' with him and he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it’ll be great."

Despite not being in the yet-to-be-titled new series, Carell is now reuniting with former 'The Office' co-star John Krasinski on 'IF', where Krasinski is the director and writer and Carell is voicing Blue, the main imaginary friend.
Regarding Krasinski's abilities behind the camera, Carell remarked, "He directed some episodes of The Office so I was familiar with him as a director and he’s a great director."
Plot and cast details for 'The Office' follow-up
The upcoming series was formally announced last week. The logline for 'The Office' spin-off series reads: "The documentary crew that immortalized Dunder Mifflin’s Scranton branch is in search of a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the publisher trying to revive it with volunteer reporters."
Production on the show is scheduled to start in July, and it will be directed by Michael Koman of 'Nathan For You' and Greg Daniels, the man behind the American adaptation of 'The Office'.
Among the staff at the new office will be Domhnall Gleeson ('Star Wars', 'Ex Machina', 'About Time') and Sabrina Impacciatore ('The White Lotus'), per Entertainment Weekly.

Another 'The Office' OG star Jenna Fischer earlier revealed that she has not been invited to appear in the future series, while confirming that a spinoff of 'The Office' has been in development.
Fischer, who played Pam Beesly for nine seasons of the beloved series, stated in an interview with PEOPLE, "No, I have not been approached."
Fans left disappointed as Steve Carell was 'literally the entire show'
Steve Carell's confirmation that he won't be part of the new 'The Office' series left his fans disheartened. One X user exclaimed, "He is literally the entire show."
A second fan asserted, "This new show is bound to fail," while a third wondered, "This means he’s definitely gonna be involved somehow. Even if it’s just for like 3 seconds."
Echoed a similar assumption, someone else said, "Hoping he’ll have a cameo on one of the episodes."
"You don't mess with perfection. There's no reason for him to come back. And I think fans would actually really upset if he came back," asserted another fan.

One user chimed in, "Good. Though I would love to see him return, i think it should be in a movie if ever done. But they’ve done everything they possibly could with that character. It’s best left alone."
Several users shared various memes and clips from the iconic show to express their disappointment.
