WASHINGTON, DC: Boxing star Ryan Garcia publicly withdrew his support for President Donald Trump on Saturday, January 31, citing the Justice Department’s release of new Jeffrey Epstein-related documents as the breaking point.

The former champion said the disclosures made it impossible for him to continue backing anyone he believes may be connected, directly or indirectly, to Epstein’s activities. While Garcia acknowledged there is no evidence implicating Trump in criminal conduct, he said he was unwilling to take what he described as moral or spiritual risks.

Garcia withdraws Trump support after Epstein document release

Following the DOJ’s large document release on Friday, Garcia took to X to express anger and frustration over the material tied to Epstein, the late financier accused of running a sex trafficking operation involving minors.

“This is my public declaration and announcement,” Garcia wrote. “I’m retracting my past support for Donald Trump.”

In another post, Garcia said he could not support “anyone that was involved in anything to do with that island,” adding that children needed to be protected and accountability was long overdue.

Despite acknowledging that Trump has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing in the records, Garcia said he was unwilling to separate politics from what he described as a moral line.

“To everyone saying Trump is innocent and it was proven false, I’m not taking chances,” Garcia wrote. “I only stand with the kingdom of God."

Garcia cites faith and moral concerns in social media posts

Garcia, who had previously voiced support for Trump, framed his decision as faith-driven rather than political. He repeatedly emphasized that his stance was rooted in spiritual beliefs, calling the situation “bigger than politics.”

On Instagram, Garcia later posted a screenshot of his initial statement, acknowledging that his earlier comments were written in a highly emotional state.

“I have to admit I was a bit anxious and angered when writing this tweet,” Garcia wrote. “To be clear, I’m retracting any support for Donald Trump.”

He added that he initially believed Trump would pursue justice but said recent developments changed his view. Garcia claimed Trump’s actions showed a focus on self-protection rather than accountability for those tied to Epstein.

DOJ says Epstein records do not implicate Trump

Garcia’s remarks came after the Justice Department released a cache of Epstein’s personal emails and related records on January 30.

Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche said the documents did not implicate President Trump in any criminal conduct.

“In none of these communications did Epstein suggest President Trump had done anything criminal or had any inappropriate contact with any of his victims,” Blanche said.

While federal officials stressed the records do not accuse Trump of wrongdoing, Garcia said the release was enough for him to sever political ties, reiterating that his stance was based on conscience rather than legal conclusions.
