WASHINGTON, DC: President Donald Trump said in an interview on Friday that he plans to pursue legal action against author and journalist Michael Wolff, saying newly discussed emails and files showed Wolff ‘conspiring’ with convicted offender Jeffrey Epstein to gather damaging information about him.

Trump made the comments to the press aboard Air Force One en route to Palm Beach, responding to the latest release of documents and media coverage involving Epstein-related material that has drawn public scrutiny.

Trump claims Michael Wolff conspired with Epstein

Donald Trump claimed that “very important people” told him the records do not show he did anything wrong. He argued that the messages instead reveal Michael Wolff and Jeffrey Epstein trying to damage his reputation.

“Looks like this guy Wolf, who's a writer, was conspiring with Epstein to do harm to me. And I didn't see it myself, but I was told by some very important people that not only does it absolve me, it's the opposite of what people were hoping, you know, the radical left,” Trump said.

He admitted that he had not seen the files himself but had received a briefing from his advisers. “So we’ll probably sue Wolff for that.”

“That Wolf, who's a third-grade writer, was conspiring with Jeffrey Epstein to hurt me politically or otherwise. And that came through loud and clear.”

Wolff, the author of several books about Trump, including 'Fire and Fury' and 'Siege', has previously drawn controversy for his reporting and commentary on Epstein’s ties to prominent figures, including Trump.

Emails fuel scrutiny of Michael Wolff–Epstein ties

Recent disclosures include emails exchanged between Michael Wolff and associates of Jeffrey Epstein that were released by House Democrats, prompting debate about journalistic ethics and the role of former sources in political reporting.

The controversy intensified after a large batch of emails and documents linked to Epstein and his circle was released. Among them were messages between Wolff and Epstein. Critics argue the exchanges show the two discussing strategies aimed at shaping public perception of Donald Trump’s connection to Epstein.

One email cited by critics shows Wolff suggesting how Epstein might handle questions if asked about Trump. Wolff has previously faced legal challenges related to Epstein-linked reporting.

In late 2025, Wolff filed a lawsuit against first lady Melania Trump after her legal team threatened a $1 billion lawsuit over alleged defamatory statements tied to Epstein reporting. The case highlighted ongoing tensions between Wolff and the Trump family.

Whether Trump’s stated intent to sue Wolff will result in a filed case, and how courts might assess such a claim, remains to be seen in the evolving legal and political landscape.
