LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Legendary boxer Roy Jones Jr announced the death of his son DeAndre Jones, 32, who died by suicide over the weekend.

The 55-year-old boxing legend broke the tragic news in a heartbreaking Instagram statement, expressing his gratitude for being there for his son on his last night alive.

The boxing icon informed the public of DeAndre's death via an Instagram statement. "Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday," stated Jones.

"I'm so thankful that god allowed me to come home Friday night to spend the last night of his life with me and the family," Jones added.

"I know a lot of people are going through tough times right now, but nothing is worth taking your own life. God gives it and god should be the one to take it away."

DeAndre, born on July 1, 1992, was the third child of Jones and his wife Natlyn, after his brothers Roy III and DeShaun.

Any information on his death on Saturday, June 22, has not yet been confirmed by the authorities, as reported by Daily Mail.

People condole Roy Jones Jr's son's tragic death

Several individuals sent condolences for the Jones family after DeAndre's death. Messages flooded the comment section of the post.

Actor Martin Lawrence wrote, "My condolences brotha," while former boxer Amir Khan commented, "My deepest condolences brother I am so sorry. Praying for your family."

UFC champion Mike Swick remarked, "I was in a very similar situation when I was young and feel your pain and confusion. I couldn’t agree with you more! Stay strong Champ!!"

Former professional Audley Harrison wrote, "No father should have to bury their son - I’m hurting for you and your family Roy 😥 my condolences."

Brazilian-American mixed martial artist Cris Cyborg commented, "My heart aches for you and your family. I pray you are surrounded by an abundance of love and god protects you and your family while giving his guidance as you grieve."

Roy Jones Jr won multiple titles in various weight divisions

As per the New York Post, Roy Jones Jr amassed an impressive collection of titles in a variety of weight classifications, from middleweight to heavyweight.

He won the IBF Super Middleweight title against James Toney in 1994 through unanimous decision in what was nicknamed the "Uncivil War". Toney went into the bout with a 46-0 record.

In three meetings with Antonio Tarver between 2003 and 2005, Jones Jr prevailed in the first two but lost the other two.
