LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Bradley Cooper was on the verge of quitting the 2012 film 'Place Beyond the Pines.' Director Derek Cianfrance revealed that he had to make convincing arguments to Cooper in order to get him to stay.

'The Place Beyond the Pines' director and co-writer Derek Cianfrance revealed to IndieWire at the New Directors/New Films festival that Cooper nearly pulled out of the project after he received a revised script.

Although Bradley Cooper has a long list of noteworthy roles on his resume, he almost dropped one outstanding performance due to unforeseen script revisions at the last minute.

Cooper, who co-stars in 'The Place Beyond the Pines' with Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes, expressed dissatisfaction with the script's revisions, particularly those that affected his role.

After director Cianfrance and screenwriter Darius Marder reportedly altered "every word" of the film weeks before main production began, Cooper reportedly considered pulling out of the project.

Cianfrance told IndieWire that Cooper messaged the director immediately to inform him that he was leaving the movie after reading the scripts.

"I had given [Marder] the script and he had a lot of notes for it, and I kind of agreed with a lot of what he was saying. And so we rewrote every word from 10 weeks to six weeks," Cianfrance said.

Cianfrance continued, "I remember giving Bradley Cooper the copy of ‘The Place Beyond the Pines,’ the new script, and getting a voice message from him saying, ‘Bro, I just want to let you know I read the new draft and I’m out.’"

Cianfrance claimed that this was "not the movie that we had signed up to do," which infuriated Cooper, Variety reports. The 'Blue Valentine' maker also revealed that Cooper's collaboration was necessary for the project because the actor covered half of the costs.

Cianfrance claimed that rather than jumping into panic mode, he flew to Montreal to have a face-to-face conversation with the 'Maestro' star that stretched from midnight to about 3.30 am.

"I was like, ‘Can I come talk to you?’ So I went up to Montreal, and I had a long conversation with him from midnight to 3:30 in the morning where I got him back on."

In the end, Cooper decided to return for the film; however, Cianfrance made fun of the fact that Cooper merely consented because he was too exhausted to continue arguing.

"It was only in the last five minutes [he was convinced]. I think he just got tired. He wanted to go to bed," Cianfrance added.
