LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In what might be heartbreaking news for 'Bridgerton' fans, it has been revealed that the wait for the fourth season might be longer than previously anticipated.

Showrunner Jess Brownell recently revealed that following the conclusion of Polin’s story, fans will likely have to wait for another two years to get the fourth season of the Regency romance.

In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Brownell shared, “We are working to try and put the seasons out more quickly, but they do take eight months to film and then they have to be edited, and then they have to be dubbed into every language.”

She explained, “And the writing takes a very long time as well, so we’re kind of on a two-year pace, we’re trying to speed up, but somewhere in that range.”

Jess Brownell shares she’s excited about next season

Despite informing the fans about the estimated waiting period, Brownell did not share which Bridgerton sibling is expected to take center stage.

She even added as a precautionary measure when asked about the expected lead, “I have almost slipped up a couple of times, so keep asking, and maybe I’ll slip up.”

The second half of season three was full of surprises with a probable introduction of queer romance angle in some of the main characters’ archs.

When Brownell was asked whether the viewers would be happy with the developments, she replied, “I think it’s hard to say. There’s so many different ships. I think one of the ships is going to be very, very happy.”

She, nevertheless, shared that they are “really excited about what we’re writing.”

Brownell explained, “We’re toward the end with the writers room season, with the scripts,” and added, “And I feel like it’s some of my best work and my writers room’s best work. We’ve just really gelled our collaboration, and we’re firing on all cylinders, so I can’t wait for fans to see what we have.”

As Colin Bridgerton (Luke Newton) and Penelope Bridgerton (Nicola Coughlan) walked toward their happily ever after, the series left clues for the fans to explore the next protagonist.

At the end of season three, not only did Polin’s story conclude but Francesca (Hannah Dodd) also tied the knot with John Stirling, Earl of Kilmartin. The wedding scene, however, famously introduced John’s cousin, Michaela Stirling (Masali Baduza).

Though Julia Quinn’s novels do not have a heroine called Michaela, there is, indeed, a man called Michael, who would eventually be the love interest of Francesca.

In Quinn’s sixth novel ‘When He Was Wicked’, Michael pursues Francesca after the death of her first husband and gets married to the sixth Bridgerton sibling.

With ‘Bridgerton: Season 3’ leaving fans hanging at such an interesting point with Francesca getting introduced to her probable love interest and Benedict (Luke Thompson) exploring his sexuality, it is going to be a long wait for season four indeed.

'Bridgerton' fans left disheartened

Fans of the series were left disheartened with the prospect of a two-year wait and took to social media to air their grievances, even calling out the producers to make haste with the production.

One of them said, "I just finished #bridgertonseason3 . How am I supposed to wait TWO YEARS for season 4 of #BRIDGERTON ?! They MUST MAKE HASTE and bump that timeline up a bit!!! 😂😂."

Someone else said, "Why did I binge watch part 2 knowing I’m going to have to wait two years for a new season? #BRIDGERTON."

"The announcement about bridgerton s4 not coming out for another two years absolutely destroyed my mood for the show…," declared another heartbroken fan.

Tagging the production teams, one of the fans urged earnestly, "Dearest Gentle Production Team, @bridgerton @NetflixUK @netflix Please don’t take another TWO years to produce another 8 episodes only. We aren’t getting any younger...Kindest regards, Fans ."

"NOW WE WAIT TWO YEARS FOR SEASON 4?? #BRIDGERTON," mourned another.

Someone else added, "Just finished #bridgerton. Now I gotta wait two years to feel something again."

Meanwhile, someone else chimed in, "I cant believe they gave us two canon gay characters in bridgerton now..maybe waiting for 2 years for next season is not so bad ajdjqj."

"Just finished the season finale of Bridgerton. What am I supposed to do for the next two years?!" asked another disheartened fan.

A netizen advised, "Since there’s two years until the next #Bridgerton, there really should be a Lady Danbury prequel series in the year in between."

"So now what. do i just wait for next season??? two years??? just like this??" someone else lamented.
