Brittany Cartwright blasts RFK Jr over his remarks about autistic children
On April 16, RFK Jr spoke about the "environmental toxin" causing autism during a press conference, per the outlet.
He talked about the rates at which children are being diagnosed and how they could face challenges as they age.
RFK Jr told the media that there are children with autism who will never be able to "pay taxes" or "play baseball," as per NPR.
He added, "They'll never write a poem, they'll never go out on a date."
However, Cartwright fired back at the Health and Human Services Secretary on her podcast 'When Reality Hits'.
She said on the April 18 episode of her podcast, "But that is not everybody."
Cartwright added, "That just kind of rubbed me the wrong way a little bit. It kind of made me sad because it's such a public platform, and misinformation is a big deal."
Earlier in April, Cartwright revealed in an interview that her son, who's mostly non-verbal, was diagnosed with autism, per the outlet.

Cartwright said, "It can be difficult because I've never heard him say, 'I love you,' but he is so loving, and he shows me he loves me every single day. He is such a mommy's boy."
She added that while her son may face some "challenging times," he will still experience a happy, healthy, and full life.
Cartwright, "What I really want people to understand about autism is he sees the world so much more vibrant and amazing than any of us ever will. It doesn't mean that he's not going to be the smartest in his class. It doesn't mean he is not going to work for NASA one day. There aren't any limitations to what he can do."
RFK Jr draws flak for his comments about autistic children
Apart from Brittany Cartwright, several people criticized RFK Jr. for his comments about children with autism.
Minna Lee Jamison, a writer with AuDHD, shared her thoughts about RFK Jr's comments, according to Buzzfeed.

In a video on Instagram, she stated, "I just know that that worm died in his brain because it was malnourished from the lack of functioning brain tissue to eat in there, but maybe could he go try to learn a single thing about health and medicine for his job?"
Meanwhile, leadership at The Autism Society of America pushed back against RFK Jr's statement.

Christopher Banks, President and CEO of The Autism Society of America, told The Hill, "We find that unrealistic and misleading."
Moreover, Banks and the Autism Society of America’s Chief Marketing Officer Kristyn Roth agreed that there is a "significant need" for more investment and credentialed research to better understand autism spectrum disorder.
