LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hollywood actress Brooke Shields' role as a child sex worker in Louis Malle's 1978 film 'Pretty Baby' garnered immense media attention due to her young age and nude appearances.

The plot's eventual requirement that Brooke, then just 11, kiss her costar Keith Carradine, who was about 28 at the time, caused a great deal of controversy at the time.

Despite, Brooke's fondness for the controversial film, neither of her two daughters — Rowan, 21, and Grier, 18 — have watched the movie and have shown discomfort with Brooke's role in 'Pretty Baby.'

Brooke Shields' daughters call their mother's 'Pretty Baby' kissing scene 'weird'

Brooke Shields, 59, shares two daughters, Grier and Rowan Henchy, with her husband Chris Henchy. They recently discussed Brooke's filmography, voicing their opinions about the controversial movie.

Possibly 'Pretty Baby' has been the most popular and contentious movie their mother has ever made. However, Brooke continues to have positive feelings about the film as she told NPR, "I value it so much more [now]."

In a conversation with People, Grier remarked, "I don’t like this movie. I’ve seen enough of it on TikTok. I would prefer not to watch my mom being sold, as an 11-year-old prostitute. I’d rather watch the funny and happy ones."

In reference to the scene in which Brooke was kissed by her senior costar, Keith Carradine, Grier remarked, "That’s weird. She had to kiss someone [over] twice her age."

Brooke retorted, "It was a true story in the 1900s and I was acting. If I was a murderer, would you feel that was 'weird,' if I played a murderer?" To which, Grier answered, "Yes."

"Is this when you had your first kiss on stage?" Rowan asked, addressing Brooke, who declared it the "best movie" she had ever been in. "Your stage kiss does not count as a real kiss," Rowan added.

That's precisely what Keith apprised Brooke before the sequence was filmed; she related this incident in her 'Pretty Baby' documentary, released in 2023.

"He told me it doesn’t count [as a first kiss] which was very sweet. He was probably struggling too," Brooke revealed during the conversation.

"It’s more like it never really crossed my mind to say, ‘Movie night, let’s watch Pretty Baby.’ I’m either watching 'Love Island' or a new movie, like 'Minions' or 'Despicable Me'," daughter Rowan, 21, explained.

She added, "It’s not like I’m purposefully avoiding watching my mother. I loved Mother of the Bride and Castle for Christmas," referring to her mother's popular Netflix romantic comedies from the past few years.

Brooke Shields' younger daughter Grier was unaware of her mother's assault

Sharing an exclusive conversation with her daughters Rowan and Grier, Brooke revealed, "Part of being a mom is learning from your kids."

Brooke's 'Pretty Baby' documentary, which came out in 2023, explored her unique biography, her six-decade career, and her status as a beauty icon.

She also revealed at the time for the first time that she had been sexually assaulted in her early 20s by a prominent Hollywood personality, whom she declined to identify.

Though her elder daughter Rowan knew about the assault, Grier did not. To which, Brooke claimed to People, "I didn’t prepare her. It was a miscommunication."

Brooke said, "I had explained it was an exploration of sexualization of women in my industry but I was naively thinking that because we had such a solid, healthy, fairly normal existence and I’m not completely damaged that she would say, ‘Wow you’ve come through a lot but look where we are today.’"

But her younger daughter found it shocking. "I was learning about things the same time that the world was and I just took it more deeply and personally. I couldn't even get through it," Grier said.

Brooke continued, "I told her 'but there’s a happy ending' and she said, ‘I will never be okay with thinking something bad happened to you.’"

"She ended up missing the happy part. She felt helpless, and just as a mom, we make mistakes and sometimes we make assumptions," she added.

Brooke mused about her daughters, "To see the documentary or to see your parents as a public figure that other people have opinions on is just an odd situation. I’ve learned a lot by listening to them."
