COLTS NECK, NEW JERSEY: At 75, Bruce Springsteen, the legendary rock icon known as "The Boss", is determined to maintain a "lean and mean" look by severely limiting his food intake. But this may be worsening his health problems.

Noteworthy, Springsteen had postponed his tour in 2023 and gone on a six-month break due to a peptic ulcer diagnosis.

Bruce Springsteen skipping meals to stay 'lean and mean'

Sources close to Bruce Springsteen told Radar Online that the 'Born to Run' singer is committed to having a clean and green diet.

However, insiders reveal that he is now "skipping most meals", focusing primarily on his music.

"He’s just not hungry," said one insider. "He tells friends that his lyrics feed him."

In a recent interview to promote his new documentary 'Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band', which released on Hulu and Disney+ on October 25, Springsteen admitted that he now eats just one full meal a day.

"I’ll have a bit of fruit in the morning and then I’ll have dinner. That has kept me lean and mean," he explained.

However, sources worry that Springsteen's obsession with maintaining a lean physique may be doing more harm than good.

"At his age, he probably needs a better-balanced diet, including more calories from healthy carbs and fats," said an insider.

"Bruce is doing himself no favors by running around on steel wheels with hunger pains."

On top of his own health struggles, Springsteen’s personal life has also been affected by his wife, Patti Scialfa, 71, battling a rare form of blood cancer since 2018.

"The hope is that Bruce realizes that hardly eating is not good for him and he changes before it’s too late," said the insider.

Devastating ulcer impacts Bruce Springsteen’s tour

In 2023, Bruce Springsteen made some dramatic changes to his lifestyle following a serious health scare that left him reeling, according to Radar Online

After being forced to cancel multiple concerts across the US due to a debilitating peptic ulcer, Springsteen, 74, decided to clean up his diet, cutting out alcohol, and doing whatever it takes to regain his health.

A source close to the 'Dancing in the Dark' star revealed, “He’s made some serious life changes, totally cleaned up his diet and cut out all the booze. He’s willing to do whatever it takes to get his health back.”

Springsteen has been candid about the impact the ulcer had on his ability to perform. “You sing with your diaphragm. You know, my diaphragm was hurting so bad that when I went to make the effort to sing, it was killing me, so I literally couldn’t sing at all.”

Despite the intense pain, Springsteen was unwilling to let go of his touring schedule.

“Being on stage is everything to him. He pushed himself to get back to his fans as soon as possible,” sources shared.

However, this drive to perform might have taken a toll, as his body gave out once again earlier this year, leading to more canceled shows which were later attributed to "vocal issues".
