This Monday, 26 May during the Women’s Alzheimer’s Movement Forum, Heming Willis opened up about the moment her husband received the devastating diagnosis.
“The day Bruce received his diagnosis, we left the office with a brochure and an empty goodbye. No plan, no guidance, no hope, just shock,” Heming Willis said.

She described how the news altered the course of their lives. “The future we imagined simply vanished, and I was left trying to hold my family together, raise our two young daughters, and care for the man I love while navigating a disease I barely understood,” she added according to Vanity Fair.
Emma Heming Willis 'needed someone to look me in the eye' as she recalls feeling isolated
Heming Willis shared the deep sense of isolation she felt at the time.
“I felt lost, isolated, and scared. What I needed at that moment, at that appointment, was not just medical information. I needed someone to look me in the eye and say, ‘This seems impossible right now, but you will find your balance. You will survive this and you will grow because of it,’” she said.
Since she didn’t find that support when she needed it most, Heming Willis decided to offer it to others facing similar challenges.

On September 9, Heming Willis will release 'The Unexpected Journey', a book designed to guide caregivers navigating the complexities of caring for a loved one with a dementia diagnosis.

“I wrote it for other caregivers who are desperate for answers, aching for support, and wanting to be seen and wondering how they’re going to make it through," Heming Willis wrote in April after revealing the book’s cover on Instagram.
“This is the book I trust will help the next caregiver,” she added. “It is filled with support, insight, and the hope needed to navigate this journey.”
