‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ cast Then and Now: Dolly Parton hints at reboot of iconic '90s show
Where are the stars of ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ now?
The mid-90s show ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ revolved around the life of Sarah Michelle Gellar’s Buffy Summers, who was navigating life as a high schooler with the added responsibility of hunting vampires and demons. It instantly became a hit among the then-teenagers and ran from 1997 to 2003. Now, it seems the makers are thinking of rebooting it as Dolly Parton, whose production company Sandollar Productions produced the series, has confirmed. She shared, “They're still working on that. They're thinking about bringing it back and revamping it.” While there is no confirmed date for the reboot yet, let’s take a look at its cast members.
Sarah Michelle Gellar
Sarah Michelle Gellar played the lead role in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ as Buffy Summers. She was just 19 when the series launched in 1997. She continued to play the titular role until its finale in 2003.
However, after the show ended, the 46-year-old actress also took a backseat in acting and focused on her two children and other enterprises. More recently, she was, however, seen in the TV series ‘Wolf Pack’ as Kristin Ramsey.
James Marsters
James Marsters was seen as a bad-boy vampire named Spike in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. However, Marsters’ career span also saw him getting popular with his work in ‘Angel’ and ‘Smallville’. The 61-year-old actor has continued to act and his recent performance was in Hulu’s Marvel series, ‘Runaways’.
David Boreanaz
David Boreanaz played Angel, a cursed monster, in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’, but that was just the beginning. The actor, now 54, saw his career take off as he was cast as FBI Special Agent Seeley Booth on ‘Bones’ from 2005 to 2017. More recently, Boreanaz’s character as Navy SEAL team leader Jason Hayes in ‘SEAL Team’ has given him so much love and praise.
Nicholas Brendon
Nicholas Brendon’s character Xander was widely popular and loved in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. He also appeared in ‘Criminal Minds’ and ‘Private Practice’. Brendon was seen working alongside Bradley Cooper on the Fox series ‘Kitchen Confidential’. But lately, the 52-year-old actor has not been living his best life. In 2015, he revealed that he was “molested as a child, it was 1982” and did not get the required therapy. Brendon also had multiple encounters with police and got arrested several times for grand theft, resisting arrest, and battery against a peace officer. Even physically, the writer is not doing well as in 2021, he shared that he underwent spinal surgery.
Alyson Hannigan
Alyson Hannigan’s Willow was one of the most interesting characters on ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ as she went through several ups and downs throughout the show. But after Buffy, Hanningan did not go away from the limelight and gave back-to-back performances in ‘How I Met Your Mother', ‘Penn and Teller: Fool Us', and many more. Her latest stint was in the fall 2023 season of ‘Dancing with the Stars’.
Anthony Head
Anthony Head played the mysterious Rupert Giles in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. His other notable works include ‘Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters’ and ‘Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan’. He was also seen in an episode of ‘Bridgerton’, which aired on Netflix in 2020. Besides, Head was recently seen as former Richmond FC owner Rupert Mannion, in ‘Ted Lasso’.
Charisma Carpenter
Charisma Carpenter was Cordelia in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. She also appeared in ‘Charmed', ‘Veronica Mars', and ‘The Lying Game'. The 53-year-old also got the chance to showcase her talent on the big screen as she worked in ‘The Expendables’. She was in the news recently for speaking against the ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’ creator Joss Whedon, accusing him of “hostile and toxic” treatment.
Michelle Trachtenberg
Michelle Trachtenberg was Buffy’s younger sister Dawn Summers in ‘Buffy the Vampire Slayer’. After slaying in it, the actress, now 38, also appeared in numerous movies, like ‘Euro Trip', ‘17 Again', and ‘Ice Princess’. She was also seen as Georgina Sparks in the ‘Gossip Girl’ series. Recently, Trachtenberg has garnered some negative attention because of her changed look but she fired back at trolls, saying, “Fun fact. This is my face. Not malnutrition no problems. Why do you have you hate? Get a calendar.”
