LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: After Caitlin Clark was named the 2024 WNBA Rookie of the Year, a wave of outrage erupted online over a single vote that denied her a unanimous win.

Notably, the single vote for contemporary Angel Reese prompted many fans to express their outrage, with some even calling for the voter to be imprisoned.

The 22-year-old star of the Indiana Fever received the prestigious award on Thursday, October 3, as announced by the WNBA.

To commemorate this significant achievement, the Fever shared a video capturing the moment Clark, who was the first overall pick in April's draft, learned she had won the honor.

Caitlin Clark received 66 out of 67 votes for the Rookie of the Year award. Angel Reese from the Chicago Sky received one vote, despite playing in only 34 games this season.

Many were shocked by this outcome, given the records Clark set and her role in helping the Fever reach their first playoff berth since 2016. While Reese had a strong season and broke several records, Clark was the clear favorite to win the award, especially before Reese's injury.

This season, Clark showed she could compete with the best in the WNBA. After a standout college career, she was the first pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft. Her performance sparked new fan interest in the league, as per People

Over 40 games, Clark averaged 19.2 points, 5.7 rebounds, 8.4 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. She shot 41.7% from the field and 34.4% from three-point range. Her 8.4 assists per game made her the league's assist leader, with Alyssa Thomas of the Connecticut Sun close behind at 7.9.

Clark also led the league with an average of 3.0 three-pointers made per game. Arike Ogunbowale and Kelsey Plum tied for second place at 2.9. She set rookie records for assists and points, becoming the first rookie to achieve a triple-double.

Additionally, she set the WNBA single-season record for most points by a point guard and for assists. Clark broke the single-game assist record with 19 and became the fastest player to reach 100 three-pointers in league history.

She also set multiple franchise records for the Indiana Fever, including the most three-pointers, double-doubles, and games with 10 or more assists in a season. After a challenging 2024 season, following her NCAA career, Caitlin Clark will enjoy a well-deserved break before the 2025 season.
