The 'General Hospital' actor further shared that he is now "healthy" and "stronger."

"I had my four-year cancer checkup, so I'm healthy, cancer-free... doing great. I'm stronger than I've ever been. I've got more energy than I've ever been. I worked really hard at it," Mathison told the outlet.

Days after receiving the diagnosis, Mathison underwent a partial nephrectomy, a surgical procedure where only part of the kidney containing the tumor is removed which is a form of treatment.

Following his surgery, the actor took to Instagram to update that the tumor was gone. A month later, he told Extra that he was "cancer-free."

Cameron Mathison recalls 'scary' diagnosis of kidney cancer

After he learned he was cancer-free, Mathison spoke to People about the first time he learned of his diagnosis.

"My doctor called me and said, 'They found a growth on your right kidney that is consistent with renal cell carcinoma.' It was like one of those moments where you're in a dream. I just wanted to wake up," Mathison said.

He further added that it was "really scary." Reflecting on his health journey, Mathison said that he sought the help of a health coach to navigate life post-surgery.

In June 2022, the actor said, "I work with a health coach now."

"I thought I knew a lot about what I was doing in the right and the wrong ways or whatever, but in the last year, I'd say, maybe 14 months, I've learned more about my own specific health challenges and growth than I have probably in decades before that," he added.

The experience had a transformative effect on his perspective on life. "The way that it's changed, it's increased my desire and my willingness and my effort and motivation to help others and to spread the word and just to be a benefit," said Mathison.

"I got so much help through my journey, and it's like, not everybody has that," he added.
