LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: In a scathing critique of media coverage of Donald Trump's trial in the Stormy Daniels hush money case, Jon Stewart, host of 'The Daily Show,' lambasted the excessive attention given to inconsequential moments during the proceedings.

Stewart highlighted how news outlets fixated on trivialities such as the former president's facial expressions, gestures, and interactions with his attorneys, while potentially significant developments went unnoticed.

Stewart exposes media's overemphasis on trivial details

During a segment on his show on Monday night, April 22, Stewart played clips of cable news analysts dissecting minor occurrences, illustrating how the media's obsession with sensationalizing mundane details could overshadow truly significant events within the trial.

He emphasized the danger of portraying trivial matters as groundbreaking, warning that it undermines the credibility of media outlets when genuinely important revelations arise.

"Look, at some point in this trial, something important and revelatory is going to happen," Stewart said.

"But none of us are going to notice because of the hours spent on his speculative facial tics. If the media tries to make us feel like the most mundane bulls**t is earth-shattering, we won’t believe you when it’s really interesting. It’s your classic boy who cried Wolf... Blitzer."

Jessica Williams' defense of sensationalism

Stewart humorously pointed out that even Trump himself, who notoriously craves attention, exhibited the most appropriate reaction to the trial by reportedly falling asleep in court. This ironic observation underscored the absurdity of the media's relentless focus on inconsequential aspects of the proceedings.

However, not everyone shared Stewart's perspective. Former 'Daily Show' correspondent Jessica Williams rejoined the program to challenge Stewart's criticism, arguing that the sensationalism surrounding Trump's trial provides a much-needed distraction from other depressing news stories.

“My poor, sweet, naive, older-than-I-remember Jon,” she said.

“We need this messy bullshit spectacle. Every other news story is a massive bummer. This Trump trial is like an open window in a Greyhound bus full of farts. Why are you trying to close the window, Jon? Why are you trying to make us smell farts?”

Internet reacts to Stewart's media bashing

Social media users took to various platforms to express their reactions to Jon Stewart's critique of the media's fixation on trivial details during Donald Trump's trial.

One user wrote, "Hell, they’re counting every time he farts! Which by all counts…is quite frequently."

Another added, "I’m surprised they didn’t mention when the lights turned red and green!!! Ahhhhhhh!"

One user said, "That is the most I've laughed at Jon Stewart in years."

One commented, "I stopped watching MSNBC because I can’t take their Trump obsession. There are other things going on in the world worth covering. But they ignore everything but Trump."

One said, "Hilarious."
