Cara Delevingne confirms rumored romance with Amber Heard years after speculation
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Cara Delevingne confirmed her long-speculated romance with Amber Heard while addressing nearly a decade of rumors during an appearance on 'The Louis Theroux Podcast' on Monday, June 29.
She opened up about her relationship with Heard, actor Johnny Depp’s reported jealousy, and the timeline of their connection. This revelation comes amid her reflection on sobriety journey, mental health, and the personal growth that has reshaped her life.
Cara Delevingne confirms relationship with Amber Heard
Delevingne revealed that she and Heard became romantically involved after her 2016 divorce from Depp, though their connection dated back to 2013 when they appeared together with the actor in 'London Fields.'
The film, a murder mystery starring Billy Bob Thornton, was itself caught in legal disputes between its director and producer, but Delevingne suggested the personal dynamics behind the scenes were equally complicated.
Speaking with the host Louis Theroux, Delevingne acknowledged that she and Heard "were close for a long time" and admitted that after her divorce, "we were entangled, I suppose."
When Theroux raised Depp’s alleged concerns that Heard might be involved with Delevingne, the model said he "was pretty driven crazy by jealousy" during the filming of 'London Fields,' while clarifying that "nothing was happening at that point."
She added that the romantic relationship developed later, after they separated. When Theroux also mentioned CEO of Tesla and SpaceX Elon Musk, she agreed that Heard "was also entangled with other people."
Heard after the divorce has left Hollywood and now lives in Madrid with her three children. Announcing the birth of her twins on Instagram, she wrote, "This year I am elated beyond words to celebrate the completion of the family I've strived to build for years. I thought I couldn’t possibly burst with more joy. Well, now I am bursting times three!!!"
Cara Delevingne reflects on sobriety and empowering women
Ahead of International Women’s Day on March 8, Delevingne, a L’Oréal Paris global ambassador, spoke with PEOPLE about women’s empowerment, drawing from her own experiences with sobriety, mental health and self-acceptance.
Encouraging women to put themselves forward for recognition, she said, "Just do it! If you’re even thinking about it, it means you belong there." She also urged women to nominate others or even themselves, saying that believing in the importance of one’s own work is meaningful in itself.
Reflecting on previous honorees, Delevingne said they all shared a common determination to turn pain into purpose. She observed that many had experienced challenges such as a lack of diversity or mental health support, yet chose to become "the change that they wanted to see."
Her comments mirror her own personal transformation since entering rehab in 2022 and beginning a 12-step program. A year later, she told Elle UK that giving up alcohol had "been worth every second." Looking back, she said she had spent years hiding parts of herself from people who admired her, but now feels "free and myself, fully."
She also described how sobriety has changed her outlook, saying she feels "more like a kid than I’ve ever felt in the best way possible." She explained that this renewed sense of freedom influences her daily life and her approach to self-worth.
