Carl Weathers' cause of death revealed days after 'Rocky' star died at 76
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carl Weathers’ official cause of death has been released after the ‘Rocky’ star passed away at his home in Venice, California earlier this month.
The legendary actor, who played Apollo Creed in the ‘Rocky’ franchise, died on February 2 at 12:18 am, per the official documents.
How did Carl Weathers die?
According to his death certificate, obtained by The Blast, the veteran Hollywood star died of atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease.
His demise at the age of 76 has been listed as 'natural'. The document further mentions the actor to have spent 51 years in the entertainment industry and divorced at the time of his passing.
The document also lists his son Matthew Weathers as the person who notified the authorities of Carl Weathers’ passing.
While his official cause of death has been mentioned as atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, the document also mentions that he suffered from heart disease for years.
The ‘Happy Gilmore’ star’s news of passing garnered co-stars views where they said, "He died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, February 1st, 2024. We are deeply saddened to announce the passing of Carl Weathers."
They continued in their statement, "[He] was an exceptional human being who lived an extraordinary life. Through his contributions to film, television, the arts, and sports, he has left an indelible mark and is recognized worldwide and across generations.”
“He was a beloved brother, father, grandfather, partner, and friend," continued the statement.
The mortal remains of the star were cremated and it has been reported that his family members took home his ashes.
Hollywood stars like Arnold Schwarzenegger and Adam Sandler joined countless fans to mourn the passing of Weathers.
Carl Weathers’ prolific acting career spanned over five decades. He appeared in over 75 films and TV shows.
After starting his acting career in the early 1970s, the former professional football player landed his breakout role, Apollo Creed in 1976’s ‘Rocky’. He reprised his role in 1979’s ‘Rocky II’ and 1982’s ‘Rocky III’.
He also appeared on television and most recently made an appearance on the Disney+ series ‘The Mandalorian’, for which he received a nomination for a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series.
Internet mourns Carl Weathers' sudden demise
Netizens on the social media were left devastated with the news of Weathers' death. However, there were several social media users who blamed the vaccine for his heart failure.
One of the fans said on Facebook, "Such sad news. I saw him in Atlanta last November at The Mad Monster Convention. He still looked really in good shape."
Someone else said, "Shocking heart disease.when he was super fit most of his life."
Another fan continued on the thread, "And he didn't drink or smoke either. Sometimes it's in our genes but ultimately it's up to God."
"There is something else causing all those heart conditions so why are you being told as with everyone who dies of these problems that they have had these heart problems for years when everyone believed the vaccine was tested correctly I guess its just as easy to believe these after effects are normal.l dont think so," another fan sounded skeptical.
Someone else, however, said it with conviction, "Vaccine can't cause arteriosclerosis and he had it for years."
Another social media user blamed the jab, saying, "Guarantee he was recently boosted."
