Carlos Portillo: Husband found 'acting bizarrely and covered in blood' arrested for wife's murder in Texas

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS: On Monday, January 29, Carlos Portillo, 44, was taken into custody after he was discovered walking the streets covered in blood, displaying erratic behavior and screaming. 

This coincided with the discovery of his deceased wife in a nearby apartment complex in northwestern San Antonio, as per Law&Crime.

According to Bexar County court records, Portillo has been charged with one count of first-degree murder and one count of second-degree felony drug possession.

In the initial account, the disturbance on Vance Jackson Road was reported shortly after 7 am, describing a man who was later identified as Carlos Portillo behaving erratically, screaming, and covered in blood. 

According to police documentation, upon arrival, officers engaged with Portillo, questioning him about the source of the blood on him, leading to the confession that it was his wife's blood. He also disclosed that she had been shot inside their apartment. 

Subsequently, officers went to the Portillo's residence and discovered the unresponsive 51-year-old woman, who remains unidentified by both the police and the Bexar County Medical Examiner's Office.

San Antonio Police Sgt Steven Bratina provided additional grim details, mentioning that Portillo was covered in blood "from the waist, up" and was observed walking on the sidewalk, displaying bizarre behavior, with people displaying concerns about him stepping into traffic. 

The victim, who sustained at least one gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Portillo was apprehended without incident. As of now, the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.

Sgt Bratina also informed that the firearm believed to have been used in the murder was recovered near the crime scene.

Carlos Portilla has previously faced charges of assault and burglary 

As per Bexar County court records, the murder case against the accused husband, Portillo, awaits an indictment and currently has no listed attorney. 

He is presently held in the Bexar County Jail on a $250,000 bond for the murder charge and an additional $25,000 bond for the drug charge

A prehearing for the case is scheduled for March 12.

Notably, Portillo has a criminal history dating back to the late 1990s, as indicated by court records reviewed by the San Antonio Express-News. 

The defendant has previously faced charges including evading arrest, assault causing bodily injury, burglary of a vehicle, and felony firearm possession.
