Carrie Underwood appears to take dig at former 'American Idol' judge Katy Perry’s space flight adventure

LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carrie Underwood, one of the current 'American Idol' judges, is weighing in on Katy Perry’s recent Blue Origin space flight - and she's not exactly onboard.
The former judge’s 11-minute, all-female mission, backed by Jeff Bezos, sparked backlash, with critics including celebrities calling it excessive and unnecessary.
Perry recently hit back at online mockery with a heartfelt message, calling the internet a "dumping ground for the unhinged and unhealed," while thanking her loyal supporters for standing by her.

'American Idol' judges take subtle dig at Katy Perry
Carrie Underwood, 42, who rose to fame after winning the fifth season of 'American Idol' in 2005, stepped in as a judge on the long-running singing competition last year, taking over for Katy Perry.
During an interview, she appeared to take a subtle jab at Perry’s recent spaceflight, saying, "The day I go to space will be when the good Lord decides my time on Earth here is done and he takes me home."

"So, that will be the day I leave this Earth," she told Access Hollywood.
Fellow 'American Idol' judge Lionel Richie, 75, also weighed in on Perry’s venture into space.
"My first thought was, 'Get out of the capsule.' It’s not that anything was going to go wrong. It’s just that I don’t like the phrase, 'Never happened before.' So I said, 'You go right on girl,' he said.
The 'Dancing on the Ceiling' singer made it clear he has no plans to follow Perry’s path.
"I'm having trouble navigating earth and gravity. Just walking straight everyday is a daunting task at the point in my life," he added when asked if he’d ever consider space travel.
Perry, 40, had been a judge on 'American Idol' for seven seasons before announcing her departure in February 2024, as per DailyMail.

Carrie and Lionel's remarks came after Katy and five other notable women successfully completed a spaceflight on April 14.
The group included Lauren Sanchez, Gayle King, civil rights advocate Amanda Nguyen, former rocket scientist Aisha Bowe, and filmmaker Kerianne Flynn.
Despite the milestone, the Blue Origin mission has received criticism from several celebrities, including Olivia Munn, Emily Ratajkowski, Kesha, and Perry herself. The 11-minute flight, which took place on a Monday, marked a high-profile moment in civilian space travel.
