Carrie Underwood reveals what kind of judge she’ll be on ‘American Idol’ as she replaces Katy Perry
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carrie Underwood has opened up on her return to ‘American Idol’ as a judge after several years.
Making an appearance on the ‘Good Morning America’ show, the ‘Cry Pretty’ crooner said that it ‘feels like home’ after making it big 20 years ago on the same platform.
“I feel like being on both sides of the coin I’ll be able to hopefully offer some insight and help,” the winner of ‘Idol’ season 4 in 2005 said.
Carrie Underwood will be a 'constructive and encouraging' judge
When asked about how she’d be as a judge on the show as she joins fellow judges Lionel Richie and Luke Bryan, the singer responded, “I do have a big problem. Hopefully it’s not a problem. I can’t lie. I just can’t. You can tell. I feel like I’ll be very honest, but hopefully, you know, I can be very constructive and encouraging.”

“Carrie Underwood is the first American Idol alum ever to join the judging panel. Her global superstar status as the most successful Idol winner to date makes her a perfect fit for the show,” Megan Wolflick, Idol showrunner and executive producer, said in a statement.

“She embodies the true spirit of Idol as she herself is the definition of the Cinderella story. Our future hopefuls will have the chance to receive advice from someone who has walked in their exact footsteps every step of the way. Carrie has always been a strong supporter of Idol, and I’m thrilled for her to be reunited with our Idol Family,” Wolflick added.

Katy Perry's exit opened the path for Carrie Underwood's return
The singer has been a sought-after figure for various music competition shows, including 'Idol' and 'The Voice.' 'American Idol' has shown a strong interest in bringing back its former stars as judges, with Kelly Clarkson being a notable target in 2018 before she joined 'The Voice.'
Katy Perry, who joined 'American Idol' in Season 16 during ABC's reboot of the series, announced her departure to focus on her music career. Her latest single 'Woman’s World' was released earlier this month, marking her return to the music scene, reports Billboard.
