Carrie Underwood’s husband Mike Fisher didn’t want her to join ‘American Idol’ as judge, here’s why
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Carrie Underwood will be the new judge of ‘American Idol’. While this is something that the singer is looking forward to, her husband does not seem to share the same excitment.
Mike Fisher, Carrie's husband and former NHL player, “didn’t want her to do 'Idol' initially but she insisted, and the paycheck is substantial,” a tipster revealed, as per Life & Style.
Why Carrie Underwood’s husband didn't want her to do 'American Idol'?
ABC announced on August 1 that Carrie Underwood will replace Katy Perry, who left 'American Idol' in May after seven seasons as judge.
The insider revealed that Mike Fisher had reservations about his wife doing 'American Idol' owing to a lot of factors. The former professional ice hockey center was concerned about the distance between Los Angeles and Tennessee, where Carrie lives with her family on a large farm outside of Nashville.
“Mike is worried Carrie won’t be able to balance her life, commuting between Tennessee and LA. It’s a huge adjustment, more than her residency in Las Vegas, which they never saw eye to eye on, either,” the source continued.
Carrie and Mike are parents to Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5.
The insider also mentioned that Fisher “is a little concerned she may perform poorly under pressure".
"Carrie is desperate to prove she will not only thrive but can also bring in the ratings," said the source.
“Carrie will either rise to the occasion and shine brightly like she’s usually done in the past, or she’ll sink under the enormous expectations. She’s got her fingers crossed, and she’s praying a ton that this works out, but only time will tell,” the source added.
Carrie Underwood is ‘proud' of everything she has done
Following the announcement that Carrie Underwood will be a judge on 'American Idol' on August 1, the singer said, as per ABC7 News, “I remember being at home in our little house in Checotah and seeing on TV that there were auditions in St Louis. My mom said, 'If you wanna go, I'll drive you.’”
“I'm proud of everything that I was able to accomplish on the show and I'm so proud of everything that I've accomplished since,” Underwood added.
Meanwhile, this was not the first time a judge of the reality TV show or their spouse has expressed their concern.
Earlier, Luke Bryan told CMT, “I think my first year at ‘American Idol,’ there was a lot of things I needed to get comfortable with. Now I’m comfortable with ‘Idol’ and doing the TV spots and the commercials and some of the fun acting bits, and I’m comfortable letting my emotions out on TV.”
Also, his wife Caroline shared, “Well, anytime you involve the whole LA stuff, you just get a little … I mean, I was scared. But it’s gone smoother than I ever thought. But you know, I was scared, I was. But then, it’s been fine.”
Underwood will join returning judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie alongside host Ryan Seacrest when 'American Idol' returns to ABC and Hulu in spring 2025.
