WASHINGTON, DC: Carrie Underwood’s decision to perform 'America the Beautiful' at Donald Trump’s inauguration has sparked a wave of controversy, leading to heated debates about the singer's political affiliation.

Soon after her announcement, angry fans flooded the comments section of posts on the Instagram page of 'American Idol', vowing to boycott the singer and the singing competition series, WhiskeyRiff reported.

Underwood, who won Season 4 of the show in 2005, joined the show as a judge for its upcoming season as a replacement for Katy Perry.

The comments section of a post from October 2, 2024, was filled with disgruntled fans who questioned the inclusion of the country singer, with one writing, "Hey AI.... This will be the first year I can remember that I will be actively not watching American Idol. You can thank Carrie Underwood for that."

Another wrote, "Why would you hire someone who supports Trump? I'm done with this show!" while someone else expressed, "Carrie Underwood as a judge? Hard pass!" highlighting the growing tension between Underwood’s decision and her professional commitments.

"American Idol was a staple in my home when raising my babes! didnt watch for many years and recently came back and have so enjoyed the last few season! news of carrie underwood performing at his inauguration has truly saddened me. I’ll be back when carrie is replaced!" one more wrote. 

Under another post, a person declared, "Un-American Idol. Like so many others; we will be boycotting the show until she’s gone." 

On X (formerly Twitter), one wrote, "Carrie Underwood Jesus is about to take the wheel and drive your career right into the toilet," while another stated, "Shame on Carrie Underwood. She has been removed from my playlists. Is it so hard to stand up with moral principles? Money is truly the root of all evil."

"Destroying all my Carrie Underwood albums," a disgruntled fan declared, while one more expressed, "I knew Carrie Underwood was a republican but I didn’t realize she’d morphed into a full-blown MAGA rethuglican. GARBAGE!"

"Carrie Underwood is preforming at Trump’s inauguration so I’m blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music," one more fumed. 



 



 



 



 



 

Carrie Underwood feels 'honored' to have been asked to sing at Donald Trump's second inauguration

Carrie Underwood, accompanied by the Armed Forces Chorus and the United States Naval Academy Glee Club, is set to perform at the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect JD Vance on January 20 in Washington, DC, as announced by the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee. 

Her performance will take place during the swearing-in ceremony, specifically following Vance’s oath of office and just before Trump takes the presidential oath.

In a statement, Underwood shared her excitement about the opportunity, saying, "I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event."

The 41-year-old added, "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
