'Change your eating habit': Mama June slammed for using new weight-loss drug after she 'packed on 130 lbs'
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: 'Mama June: Family Crisis' star June Shannon recently decided to use weight loss medications, and several critics expressed disappointment with her approach.
Despite her previous insistence that she had no interest in using weight-loss drugs, the WETV show actress recently revealed that she had chosen to take weight-loss injections after battling with her weight fluctuations over the previous years.
Mama June Shannon began taking semaglutide weight-loss injections after gastric sleeve surgery
In an April 16 Instagram video, the 44-year-old reality actress disclosed that she had started taking semaglutide, a prescription drug approved by the FDA for treating type 2 diabetes and chronic obesity.
Semaglutide, also marketed under the names Ozempic and Wegovy, affects satiety by acting on the brain. It has grown in popularity —both inside and outside of Hollywood — for weight loss during the past year, per PEOPLE.
June began the video by saying, "As you know, back in May 2015, I had gastric sleeve surgery. I used to weigh 550 lbs. and on my own, I went from 550 lbs. to 311 lbs. on the day I had my surgery. And in six weeks, I went from 311 all the way down to 195."
"And at that time, I had my skin removal on my arms, I had my chin lipoed, I had liposuction on my back, I had a tummy tuck and had a breast augmentation," June explained.
"Since then, I kinda kept off the weight. I stayed at like 130, 140, 150 lbs. But I have noticed over the last year and a half that I’ve really put on weight," she admitted.

June tried weight loss surgery more than a year ago, but she was told the procedure wouldn't have made a difference, so her attempts to lose weight failed, per Daily Mail.
June clarified that after making an unsuccessful attempt to reduce weight, she spoke with Dr Anna Charon, her dermatologist, about Semaglutide.
The reality star went on to say that she had witnessed users of Ozempic and Mounjaro medications on social media.
Mama June, who lost over 100 pounds after a gastric sleeve procedure nearly 10 years ago, has stated that she will begin taking semaglutide to continue her weight loss quest.
June advised individuals to be cautious and consult with their primary care physician before taking the medicine, saying, "I decided to go with semaglutide a couple months ago through my main doctor."
Mama June gained weight while caring for daughter Anna 'Chickadee' Cardwell
Mama June stated that she gained a significant amount of weight as a result of the strain of providing care for her daughter Anna "Chickadee" Cardwell throughout her stage 4 cancer battle before her death in December 2023.
The 'Mama June: Family Crisis' star claimed she wasn't paying attention to her personal health and that she was often eating out. She remarked, "I have packed on about 120, 130 lbs."
Anna along with her kids moved into June's house before she died in December 2023. Up until the moment of her death, June was caring for her daughter Anna.
