Chappell Roan reveals she 'might quit' music while recalling airport incident that left her shaken
NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: Rising pop sensation Chappell Roan is taking the world by storm, but behind the glitz and glamour, the pressures of fame are pushing her to a breaking point, after facing harassment at the airport, People reported.
In a candid interview with The Face on September 16, Roan, 26, made a shocking revelation: if the demands of the spotlight become too much, she might walk away from music entirely.
Singer Chappell Roan harassed by aggressive fans at airport
The singer, best known for her hit 'Pink Pony Club', shared a disturbing encounter at the airport that left her shaken.
Two male fans approached her early in the morning, demanding autographs. Despite politely declining, one of the men followed her to the TSA line, berating her in front of everyone.
“I get out of the car, it’s 5:30 in the morning, and there’s two guys waiting with a bunch of posters and s*** for me to sign,” she told the outlet. “I know they’re not fans. I said no. I was like, ‘I don’t sign anything at the airport, I’m sorry'."
Roan continued, "[One of them] follows me to the TSA line, starts yelling at me and everyone just turns and looks. He’s like, ‘You should really humble yourself. Do you know where you are right now? Don’t forget where you came from'."
Roan recalled, still in disbelief, “I’m just like: ‘What the f*** is going on?’”
“I told myself, if this ever gets dangerous, I might quit,” Roan confessed.
“It’s dangerous now, and I’m still going. But that part is not what I signed up for.”
Chappell Roan compares harassment to 'abusive ex-husband' behavior
For Chappell Roan, this isn’t just an isolated incident but part of a larger, unsettling trend.
“The vibe of this — stalking, talking s*** online, [people who] won’t leave you alone, yelling at you in public — is the vibe of an abusive ex-husband," she said.
"That’s what it feels like. I didn’t know it would feel this bad."
The emotional toll was so heavy that Roan found herself crying in the airport bathroom, texting fellow artist Lorde for advice.
"She sent me a list of things I should do [in that situation],” Roan said, praising Lorde’s guidance.
“Literally wrote down eight things she wished someone would have told her when she was going through it. And she went through f***ing hell. She was a baby!”
Despite the challenges, Roan continues to fight through the emotional strain, but it's clear the toxic side of fame weighs heavily on her.
In another recent interview with Rolling Stone, she opened up about finding solidarity in other artists facing similar struggles, including Sabrina Carpenter.
"We’re both going through something so f***ing hard," Roan said of Carpenter. "It was just good to know someone else feels that way."
