LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Hollywood actor Charles Cyphers, famously known for playing Sheriff Leigh Brackett in 'Halloween', passed away at 85 after a brief illness on Sunday, August 4.

Cyphers first played Sheriff Brackett in John Carpenter’s legendary 1978 horror film 'Halloween', starring Jamie Lee Curtis. He later reprised his role in the 1981 sequel 'Halloween II' and also in 2021’s 'Halloween Kills'.

Charles Cyphers' death mourned

Charles Cyphers' manager, Chris Roe stated, "Charles was a lovable and sensitive man. He always had the best stories, and you got a full performance while he told you. He was a close friend and client for many years who will be dearly missed."

Apart from 'Halloween', Cyphers was known for acting in films such as 'The Fog', 'Assault on Precinct 13', and 'Major League'.

His co-star Nancy Kyes said, as per DailyMail, "So sorry to hear about dear Chuck. My friend of many years, he could always be relied on for a kind word, a good laugh and a great story. How he will be missed."

Charles Cyphers' early days and career

Charles Cyphers was born on July 28, 1939, in Niagara Falls, New York, and ultimately made his way out West. He graduated from California State University, Los Angeles with a degree in theater arts. He also studied at the Los Angeles City College and earned a degree from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts before pursuing his career in acting.

During his early days as an actor, he worked in episodes of 'FBI' and 'Cannon' before making a breakthrough in his first feature film, 'Truck Turner' (1974) with Isaac Hayes and Yaphet Kotto.



 

After several supporting roles on 'The Secrets of Isis', 'The Six Million Dollar Man', and 'The Bionic Woman', he appeared in John Carpenter's film 'Assault on Precinct 13' in 1976 where he played a prison bus driver Starker.

Carpenter cast Cyphers as Sheriff Leigh Brackett in his horror classic 'Halloween', one of the greatest horror movies ever made. Cyphers and Carpenter also worked together in 'The Fog' (1980) and 'Escape From New York' (1981) and returned as Brackett in 'Halloween II'.



 

Cyphers was consistently working in Hollywood films through the '80s, '90s, and 2000s. He last appeared to play Leigh Brackett in 'Halloween Kills' in 2021.
