CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: Conservative political activist and commentator Charlie Kirk drew backlash on social media for sharing a picture of second gentleman Doug Emhoff side hugging his daughter Ella Emhoff at the Democratic National Convention.

Kirk, a supporter of former President Donald Trump, was on the ground for the DNC held at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, on August 19.

He took to X (formerly Twitter), sharing a screenshot that appears to be from a news portal where Doug was spotted hugging Ella sideways. Kirk captioned the image, "Totally not weird."

In the picture, the second gentleman had his hand on his daughter's waist, and it apparently looked like his fingers were in her belt loop as she kept her hand over his neck.

Kirk's appearance on the DNC grounds made headlines as he clashed with Parker Short, the president of Young Democrats of Georgia. The verbal spat started off with Trump's 2020 election claims and veered off to the definition of a "woman."

Ella, who was born to Doug and his first wife Kerstin Mackin, is the stepdaughter of Vice President Kamala Harris.

A fashion designer by profession, the 25-year-old appeared at the DNC wearing a "midwest princess" camouflage cap with the writing Harris-Walz to support the Democratic ticket. The baseball cap, apparently inspired by singer Chappell Roan, was sold over one million times on the day of its launch around two weeks ago.

Ella, who was earlier called "First Daughter of Bushwick," a region in Brooklyn, New York, was spotted making a heart shape with her hands on day one of the DNC, smiling broadly at the crowd, as per The Independent.

She also defended Harris after Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance's past remarks calling the VP a "childless cat lady" resurfaced online.

"How can you be 'childless' when you have cutie pie kids like Cole and I?" Ella remarked on an Instagram story, stating, "I love my three parents."

Her elder brother Cole Emhoff, the oldest stepchild of Harris, stays away from the spotlight, unlike his sister.

Internet slams Charlie Kirk over trolling Doug Emhoff and Ella Emhoff

Netizens ripped into Kirk for sharing the picture of the father-daughter duo's side hug at the DNC. Many pointed out that his reaction stemmed from the lack of family affection during his childhood.

"Sorry your dad never hugged you, dude. But actually, that kind of explains a lot. We’re not mad at you. We’re certainly not scared of you. We’re a lil bit annoyed by you. But mostly, Charlie…mostly we just pity you. :/", a user wrote.

"Leave it to potato head to think a child spending time with their dad is weird," another remarked.

"How the hell do you call yourself a christian? You're an embarrassment!" read a third response.

"I am 100% convinced that half of the MAGA bro problem is that they were never hugged by their own parents. They are devoid of both happiness and empathy and become triggered at any sign of warmth or joy," added a fourth user.

"@charliekirk11 was never loved as a child. He was kept in the basement and fed crumbs. That’s why he grew up to be a nasty little troll," an individual said.

"Charlie Kirk is super creepy and weird," another user chimed in.

"Charlie Kirk is such a sad, angry, fellow. He must not feel this comfortable with his family," someone else wrote.

"Charlie Kirk is weird. Maybe if someone would have hugged him as a child, he wouldn’t be such a horrible person," read a remark.
