OREM, UTAH: Charlie Kirk's one of the last Instagram stories before his assassination was about the horrific killing of Ukrainian refugee woman, Iryna Zarutska, who was stabbed in a commuter train in Charlotte, North Carolina, last month.

Kirk was attending an event by Turning Point USA at Utah Valley University in Orem, Utah, on Wednesday, September 10, when he was shot at by an assassin from a building 200 yards away. He tragically died after he was rushed to the hospital.

Charlie Kirk said Iryna Zarutska’s killer should not have been on the streets

In a video posted on his Instagram story, just seven hours before his assassination, Charlie Kirk said, "OK everybody, you have probably heard about the situation that happened in North Carolina. Say the name - Iryna Zarutska."

"She was a refugee from Ukraine of all places and she came to North Carolina," he added.

He also said that she was killed by a "terrible person" and requested everyone to watch the video if they haven't.

"This individual should not have been on the streets, who had 14 prior arrests. It makes you wonder, why are we putting up with this? why are we allowing so many people who have committed these crimes get released?" Kirk said.

He also noted that the "entire media" was quiet about the incident and "we forced them to cover it."

The killing of Iryna Zarutska took place on August 22 at the East/West Boulevard light rail station on the Lynx Blue Line in Charlotte, North Carolina. She was stabbed by a man named DeCarlos Brown.

Charlie Kirk had also posted on X (formerly Twitter), "If we want things to change, it's 100% necessary to politicize the senseless murder of Iryna Zarutska because it was politics that allowed a savage monster with 14 priors to be free on the streets to kill her."

In another post, he mentioned, "America will never be the same." The post had a picture of Zarustka from the clip that went viral.

Viral video shows shooting suspect on roof of building 200 yards away

Following Charlie Kirk's assassination, a video surfaced online showing someone on the roof of the Losee Center at Utah Valley University just minutes before Kirk was shot. He had been addressing the opening of his "America Comeback Tour" at UVU.

The 31-year-old was critically injured and rushed to a hospital for treatment. However, President Donald Trump provided an update shortly afterward, confirming that Kirk had succumbed to his injuries.

A suspect, who is not the shooter, was taken into custody, a spokeswoman for Utah Valley University, Ellen Treanor, revealed to reporters.

However, FBI Director Kash Patel later clarified that the individual had been released after interrogation, while Utah Governor Spencer Cox condemned the incident as a "political assassination."

Charlie Kirk was the CEO and co-founder of the conservative youth organization Turning Point USA.

Following his assassination, the American flags on the White House roof and the north and south lawns were lowered to half-staff in Kirk’s honor, as ordered by President Trump.

The POTUS wrote on Truth Social, "The Great, and even Legendary, Charlie Kirk, is dead. No one understood or had the Heart of the Youth in the United States of America better than Charlie. He was loved and admired by ALL, especially me, and now, he is no longer with us. Melania and my Sympathies go out to his beautiful wife Erika, and family. Charlie, we love you!"

Meanwhile, Fellow conservative Nick Fuentes also mourned Kirk's death. He wrote, "This feels like a nightmare. One of the most horrific things I’ve ever seen. I feel absolutely gutted and devastated. Pray for Charlie Kirk’s soul, his young family and for our country. The violence and hatred has to stop. Our country needs Christ now more than ever."
