LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Jimmy Fallon had a blast getting into the St Patrick's Day spirit early on the latest episode of 'The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon'

While he didn't indulge in any on-screen revelry, he did treat his audience to a series of witty limericks, one of which playfully compared Joe Biden to a "saltine" and Donald Trump to a "Cheeto".

Legendary Bill Murray adds extra sparkle to St Patrick's Day celebration

But the fun didn't stop there. Amid more humorous jabs at current affairs, the legendary Bill Murray made a surprise appearance alongside Ernie Hudson to chat about the upcoming 'Ghostbusters' movie. It was a delightful interruption that added an extra layer of enjoyment to the show.

With St Patrick's Day just around the corner, Fallon couldn't resist poking fun at the typical post-celebration rituals of editing out embarrassing drunk photos.

"This Sunday is St Patrick’s Day. Everyone likes to have fun on St Patrick’s Day. Then the next day people see all the drunk photos of themselves and edit them like the royal family," quipped Fallon.

Fallon's hilarious limericks and election zinger

The comedian also took a light-hearted jab at the common phenomenon of people claiming Irish heritage.

He said, "I love St Patrick’s because even people who aren’t Irish trying to explain how little bit Irish they are, they’re like ‘Yeah, I saw U2'."

And of course, no St. Patrick's Day is complete without a mention of traditional fare like corned beef and cabbage, with Fallon humorously claiming he started boiling his in mid-January like a true Irishman.

As for the celebration itself, Fallon decided to share some of his favorite Irish limericks with the audience. From cautionary tales about drinking too much green beer to humorous anecdotes about March Madness and spring break mishaps, Fallon kept the laughter rolling.

However, it was his election-themed limerick that stole the show.

"To running for president, we know. The polls show it’s a dead heat-o. The campaign is long. The candidates ain’t strong. A choice ‘tween a saltine and a Cheeto," Fallon quipped, cleverly summing up the state of affairs in a single rhyme.
